Abstract:
The invention relates to a sheet of paper which includes at least one decorative pattern (14, 16) which contrasts visually against the sheet's background (12) and which has a first series of generally truncated protrusions (22) projecting from one side (13) of the sheet and aligned in a design. In the invention, the sheet (10) includes a second series of protrusions associated with the first series (22) and of which each protrusion assumes the approximate form of a low wall projecting from a side (13) of the sheet and having a height which is less than the height of the protrusions (22) of the first series and of which each (24) bridges the two adjacent protrusions (22) of the first series to enhance the visual perception of the decorative unit (14, 16).
Abstract:
An embossing system is provided for embossing a web having a first embossing roll having embossing elements and a second embossing roll having embossing elements, wherein at least a portion of the embossing elements of the first and second embossing rolls are substantially oriented in the cross-machine direction. The embossing roll may be crowned, may have alignment means, and may be provided with precision gearing.
Abstract:
A multi-layered paper product that has bridging regions for inhibiting nesting is provided. For example, the paper product can contain a first and second layer that define ridges and valleys. Bridging regions are formed into at least one of the outer surfaces of the layers. In particular, the bridging regions are positioned at an angle of between about 0null to about 180null relative to the ridges and also have a length sufficient to extend between the peaks of at least two of the ridges. The bridging regions can be formed in a variety of ways, such as with an embossing roll that contains embossing elements. Moreover, the bridging regions can also have a variety of shapes, sizes, orientations, and/or patterns.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sheet of paper tissue which is embossed by an embossing cylinder of which the surface is fitted at least in part with embossing elements. The elements include a frustoconical base portion and a tip portion. The method is characterized in that the tip segment includes a flat of which the area is less than 75% of the smaller cross-sectional area of the base. Preferably the area of the flat is less than 20% of the base cross-sectional area. The invention furthermore concerns a sheet thusly manufactured and to sheets made of several plies of which at least one is a ply of the invention.

Abstract:
The perceived softness of embossed tissue can be increased greatly while avoiding nesting when a particular pattern is embossed into the tissue. This pattern combines relatively shallow stitchlike bosses with deeper more sharply defined signature bosses. The stitchlike bosses can be rounded and arranged in wavy flowing intersecting lines. The signature bosses can be arranged in regions framed by the intersecting wavy flowing lines.
Abstract:
Paper sheets, such as creped tissue sheets used for converting into tissue products such as facial tissue and bath tissue, can be softened with by passing the sheets through one or more fixed-gap noncompactive straining nips formed between two engraved rolls having partially-engaged small straining elements of a shape which strains the sheet in all directions. The straining treatment substantially reduces the rigidity of the tissue sheet by increasing the internal bulk without substantially reducing the tensile strength. The method provides a means for making a throughdried-like tissue sheet from a wet-pressed tissue sheet.

Abstract:
An embossed tissue having improved bulk and puffiness while being non-nesting by having a lattice pattern and at least two signature bosses. More particularly, one of the signature bosses is defined by embossments having a lower portion which is continuous and an upper portion which is defined by crenels and merlons.
