Abstract: A system and method for lighting a surface, for example a deck of a boat, spa, swim spa, pool, watercraft or vehicle, using backlighting such that decorative or other desired patterns of light may be created by forming cuts, outlines, thin sections, or voids in an overlay that is applied to the lighted surface, allowing light to pass through or around portions of the overlay material. In an exemplary use of the system and method of the invention, the surface may be the surface of a boat or spa. The surface may comprise transparent or translucent materials, allowing light from a first side of the decking, or light that is generated within the decking, to pass through the decking and to emanate from a second decking side, where the light may be blocked, partially blocked, or allowed to pass through the overlay material in any desired pattern or shape.

Abstract: A watercraft safety lighting system includes one or more light sensors for measuring ambient light levels, which are operatively connected to an electronic controller, such as a programmable logic controller or any suitable programmable computing device. The navigation lights are operatively connected to the electronic controller, as well as docking lights, interior lights, and instrument panel lighting, such as the lighting for gauges, instrument panels, video screens, GPS monitors, and the like. When ambient light levels reach a predetermined level of low light (as darkness is setting in, for example), the electronic controller is programmed to switch on the navigation lights, and to adjust other lighting to appropriate levels for night-time operations. The system may also shut off docking lights at a predetermined speed after dark, and may include alarms to warn the boat captain of improper lighting settings in low-light conditions.

Abstract: A vertical marker buoy and method for deployment are disclosed herein for enhanced detection of equipment on the water's surface. The equipment may have been previously submerged at a significant depth. The buoy and method provide a faster and more reliable means to locate equipment, e. g., at the sea surface or suspended by a float. The marker buoy has flotation device, a detection indicator and a bail mounted to a tube. The marker buoy is configured to be positioned in a substantially vertical position when the vertical marker buoy is in use on the surface of a body of water. The vertical marker buoy is capable of being deployed at an underwater depth.

Abstract: A motorized watercraft is a vehicle that is used to transport a user across the water. The motorized watercraft includes a floating board, a control unit, at least one electrically accessible system, a power source, and at least one conduit stringer. The floating board allows a user to float above the water. The at least one electrically accessible system may include a propulsion system, lights, or other features. The control unit is mounted to the deck of the floating board and is used to regulate the speed of the propulsion system and may be used to control lights which are mounted into the floating board. The power source is used to provide the energy needed for running the propulsion system and the lights. The conduit stringer runs through the floating board, strengthening the floating board and providing a channel through which wiring may run.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a visual distress signal device that includes a housing having an internal cavity with a first electrical contact and a power source positioned therein in an electrically coupled manner. An electronic assembly is at least partially positioned within the internal cavity of the housing. Such an electronic assembly may include a second electrical contact that is electrically coupled to the power source, a third electrical contact, and a light source. The device may also include a lens member detachably coupled to the housing to close an open top end of the housing in a watertight manner. A float member may be detachably coupled to the housing to provide buoyancy to the device. The electronic assembly may be movable within the internal cavity to electronically couple and decouple the third electrical contact and the first electrical contact to selectively power the light source.

Abstract: An emergency flotation device particularly suited for use in emergency situations. The flotation device includes a buoyant body having a flexible ring-shaped member on a first end thereof, wherein the ring-shaped member can be positioned around a user's neck so as to secure the flotation device to the user. A first side of the body includes a hook thereon and a second side of the body includes an extendable cable having a fastener thereon, wherein the fastener can be engaged with the hook of a second flotation device. The body also includes one or more LEDs thereon for drawing attention to the user and further includes a whistle secured thereto. One or more handles are positioned on the body to allow the user to easily grasp the flotation device while in use.

Abstract: A multi-directional signal assembly includes a signal display unit having one or more display surfaces, and at least one signal indicia affixed to each display surface. The multi-directional display assembly comprises a buoyant construction such that the signal indicia affixed to the display surface(s) are readily visible above the surface of a body of water in which the assembly is deployed. A counterweight mechanism is mounted to the signal display unit to maintain the signal display unit in a substantially upright, operative orientation when deployed. An illumination system comprising one or more illumination members is mounted to the signal display unit, and is actuated to increase visibility of the signal display unit while it is deployed n the surface of a body of water.
