摘要:
The present disclosure provides an approach to more efficiently amplify signals by matching either the gain materials or the pump profile with the signal profile for a higher-order mode (HOM) signal. By doing so, more efficient energy extraction is achieved.

An optical device (D) is dedicated to the transformation of the propagation mode of optical signals. This device comprises at least a first mode converter (3) that is supplied with signals that are propagated in a first guided mode and that delivers the signals in a multimode fibre (4) partly in the first guided mode and partly in a second guided more of a higher order that the first. The multimode fibre (4) comprises at least first passive filtering means (R) which have the task of converting the first guided mode into at least one dissipative cladding mode in order to prevent or limit the propagation of the signals in this first guided mode while at the same time authorising the propagation of the signals having the second guided mode in the multimode fibre (4).

An optical fiber with an integral photonic crystal structure. The optical fiber core is formed of a non-photosensitive material having an initial index of refraction. The optical fiber core includes a substantially cylindrical surface, a longitudinal core axis, a core radius, and a number of index-altered portions having an altered index of refraction different from the initial cladding index of refraction. The index-altered portions are arranged within the non-photosensitive material of the optical fiber core to form a photonic crystal structure. The photonic crystal structure may be a one dimensional, a two dimensional, or a three dimensional photonic crystal structure.

This invention relates to an optical fiber for long period grating (LPG), LPG components, and manufacturing method of LPG used as a mode coupler, an optical filter, etc. The optical fiber for LPG comprises a core layer, a first cladding layer that surrounds said core layer and transmits the cladding modes, and a second cladding layer that surrounds said first cladding layer and confines the optical signal of the cladding mode within said first cladding layer. The LPG component comprises an optical fiber for LPG, a coating reinforcement to cover and reinforce said optical fiber for LPG. The manufacturing method of LPG comprises a step of preparation of an optical fiber, a step of constructing the LPG on a predetermined region in said core of said optical fiber by irradiating laser light on said region over a predetermined period corresponding to the LPG, on the predetermined part of said optical fiber, and a step which covers and reinforces said grating region.

The present invention relates to a device, method, array and use of the device for optical coupling. The device comprises first and second optical waveguides (13, 23) extending longitudinally with cores (14, 24) adapted to guide optical radiation (15), first resonator means, laterally surrounding the first waveguide, comprising first and second resonator members (18, 19), and second resonator means, laterally surrounding the second waveguide, comprising third and fourth resonator members (28, 29). The invention is characterized in that first and second deflector means (16, 26) are adapted to couple radiation propagating in the respectiv first and second waveguides with common radiation modes (30), which modes are defined by adjustable geometrical and material properties of the device, so as to obtain wavelength selective coupling of radiation guided by the first and second waveguides, provided the resonator means are tuned to the same resonance wavelength.

Disclosed are optical fiber devices incorporating optical fibers with total dispersion greater than material dispersion, and with preferred dispersion values less than +50 ps/nm-km. The desired dispersion values are obtained when light resides substantially in a single higher order mode (HOM) of the fiber, typically the LP02 mode. The optical fibers also preferably have substantial separation between the effective indices of the HOM and any other mode.
