A main lens is formed by a focus electrode, an intermediate electrode, and an anode electrode successively arranged in a traveling direction of an electron beam. The focus electrode and the anode electrode respectively have an electron beam passage aperture co mmon to three electron beams, having a major axis in a horizontal direction in a portion opposed to the intermediate electrode, and three electron beam passage apertures through which the three electron beams pass are formed respectively in the focus electrode and the anode electrode. Aperture dimensions in a vertical direction of the electron beam passage apertures common to the three electron beams formed respectively in the focus electrode and the anode electrode are smaller than those in the vertical direction of the electron beam passage apertures formed in portions of the intermediate electrode respectively opposed to the focus electrode and the anode electrode. This can provide a color Braun tube apparatus that has less moire while having satisfactory focus performance over the entire surface of a phosphor screen, and in which there are no increase in the cost of a driving circuit and the decrease in withstand voltage characteristics.

The present invention provides a high-resolution color picture tube device with a decreased beam spot diameter. The color picture tube device has an electron gun including cathodes, a control electrode, an accelerating electrode, a G3 electrode, a first focusing electrode, a second focusing electrode, and a final accelerating electrode that are arranged in this order. A voltage applied to the G3 electrode is obtained by dividing with a resistor a voltage applied to the final accelerating electrode, and when an electron beam is a non-deflection state, a relationship represented as Va>Vg3>Vfoc2 is satisfied where Va, Vg3, and Vfoc2 denote voltages respectively applied to the final accelerating electrode, the G3 electrode and the second focusing electrode. Thereby, the G3 electrode is applied with a high voltage independently for forming a prefocus lens.

The present invention, in a transpose scan type cathode ray tube, an electron gun comprises a cathode electrode; a control electrode for controlling a generation amount of the electron beams; an acceleration electrode; a pre-focusing lens stage formed by pre-focusing electrodes; and a main lens stage having a main focusing electrode and an anode electrode, wherein the pre-focusing electrodes and the main focusing electrode are divided into at least two electrodes, and one of the divided two electrodes is applied by a constant voltage, and the other electrode is applied by a dynamic voltage, and quadruple lens stages are formed in the confronting portions between the electrode applied by the constant voltage and the electrode applied by the dynamic voltage.

A cathode ray tube is provided having an electron gun equipped with a main lens having a function of controlling a shape of an electron beam spot which is deflected to the peripheral portion of a display screen, to improve a resolution at the peripheral portion of the screen of the cathode ray tube for use in a direct view color television receiver or a color display terminal. To reduce the dynamic correction voltage of the electron gun, an electrostatic quadrupole lens with a simple structure is used, thereby reducing deterioration due to the deflection aberration of the electron beam spot at the peripheral portion of the screen.

The electron gun of a cathode ray tube comprises a main electron lens portion consisting of at least four electrodes arranged in the order of first grid (5), second grid (6), third grid (7) and fourth grid (8). An intermediate first voltage and an anode voltage are applied to the first grid (5) and the fourth grid (8), respectively. A resistor (100) is connected at one end to the second grid (6) and at the other end to the third grid (7) positioned adjacent to the second grid, with the result that second and third voltages of substantially the same potential, which are intermediate between the first voltage and the anode voltage, are applied to the second grid and the third grid, respectively. These grids are arranged such that a second electrostatic capacitance between the second and third grids (6, 7) is smaller than any of a first electrostatic capacitance between the first and second grids (5, 6) and a third electrostatic capacitance between the third and fourth grids (7, 8). As a result, the lateral collapse phenomenon of the electron beam, which is brought about in a periphery of the screen by the difference in the lens magnification between the horizontal direction and the vertical direction, can be moderated, (making it possible to provide a cathode ray tube having satisfactory image characteristics over the entire region of the screen.
