There is provided an electron gun for a cathode-ray tube, comprising a triode having a control electrode and an accelerating electrode for controlling the amount of electron beams emitted from a plurality of cathodes and accelerating the electron beams, a front focusing lens part configured of a plurality of electrodes focusing and accelerating a predetermined amount of the electron beams, and a main lens part configured of a plurality of electrodes for focusing the electron beams on a screen, in which the diameter of beam passage hole of the accelerating electrode of the triode corresponds to 140-220% of that of the control electrode. The thickness of the control electrode corresponds to 20-30% of the diameter of beam passage hole of the control electrode, and the distance between the control electrode and the accelerating electrode corresponds to 40-80% of the beam passage hole diameter of the control electrode. Accordingly, the spot size of the electron beam in a high current region is reduced to realize picture quality with high resolution.

The present invention provides a color cathode ray tube which can make the focusing of a center electron beam and side electron beams uniform by reducing the non-uniformity of the spot shape of electron beams depending on a deflection quantity. The second electrode G2 includes three electron beam apertures made of one center electron beam aperture and two side electron beam apertures which are arranged in an in-line array. Each one of three electron beam apertures is formed of a rectangular recessed portion which has long sides in an in-line direction and a circular aperture which penetrates a center portion of the rectangular recessed portion. The depth of the recessed portion arranged at the center electron beam aperture is set larger than the depth of the recessed portions arranged at side electron beam apertures.

An electron gun of a cathode ray tube includes an electron beam generating unit and a main lens unit. The electron beam generating unit includes a cathode, a first grid electrode and a second grid electrode, and the main lens unit is formed of plural electrode members and a final accelerating electrode disposed downstream thereof and supplied with a high voltage. A final main lens is formed between the final accelerating electrode and one of the electrode members adjacent thereto. An electrostatic quadrupole lens is formed in a first space between adjacent ones of the electrode members, one of which is supplied with a first focus voltage of a fixed value, another of which is supplied with a second focus voltage synchronized with electron beam deflection, wherein the first and second focus voltages are higher than a second grid electrode voltage. The quadrupole lens focuses the electron beams horizontally and vertically and diverges them horizontally and vertically depending upon which is the higher of the first and second focus voltages. A third electrostatic lens is disposed between the final main lens and the quadrupole lens and formed in a second space between adjacent ones of the electrode members, one of which is supplied with the first focus voltage, and another of which is supplied with the second focus voltage, and the third electrostatic lens decreases horizontal and vertical focusing actions on the electron beams with increasing electron beam deflection.
