摘要:
A recovery method for recovering proper operation of an ink jet recording head having a plurality of discharge ports and a plurality of thermal energy generating elements each corresponding to each of the discharge ports includes providing a recovery device for performing recovery according to a first recovery mode for only applying pressure to the discharge ports to effect suction of ink from the discharge ports while the discharge ports are capped by a capping device, and a second recovery mode for concurrently applying pressure to the discharge ports and driving the thermal energy generating elements to forcibly exhaust ink from the discharge ports while the discharge ports are capped by the capping means. The method also includes selectively performing recovery according to one of the first recovery mode and the second recovery mode.

In an apparatus to perform printing by ejecting an ink and a printing quality improving liquid for making a coloring agent in the ink insoluble or coagulated, reaction between the printing quality improving liquid and the coloring agent of the ink is certainly caused. Namely, after ejecting the printing quality improving liquid from a head, Bk ink, Y ink, M ink and C ink are ejected through heads within a given period, e.g. 500 msec. By this, the printing quality improving liquid may react with the coloring agent of the ink before penetrating into a printing medium to certainly make the coloring agent insoluble or coagulated.

An ink-jet recording apparatus and an ink-jet recording method which provide an image featuring reduced graininess and good gradation. A plurality of inks of different densities are used to obtain a halftone image with controlled graininess. An ink which has low penetrability on a recording medium and which controls the diffusion of dots is used as an ink with a relatively high density. An ink which has high penetrability and which permits easy diffusion of dots is used as an ink with a relatively low density. The present invention also provides a characteristic recorded article to be formed by a plurality of dots having different penetrabilities on a recording medium. Among a plurality of inks with different densities, the inks of the same color category are grouped and held in an ink container and are divided in the container by the ink density. This configuration makes it possible to make the containers smaller and minimize the number of containers.

For eliminating waste of ink and achieving high charging efficiency with a reduced charging time where a printing head is equipped with a second tank for reserving a predetermined amount of ink and a supply system is configured to supply ink from a first tank to the second tank intermittently, the second tank is provided with a variable internal volume. The internal volume is varied to cause the second tank itself to function as an actuator for charging ink and performing a venting process. Specifically, the internal volume is forcibly reduced to cause a reverse flow of a gas residing in the second tank along with ink into the first tank, which makes it possible to generate of waste ink that is released to the outside. A normal charging operation can be completed simply by causing a change in the opposite direction (the direction of increasing the internal volume). Relatedly, the second tank may be provided with a member for holding ink and generating a negative pressure originating from an elastic force. With connection of the first tank and the member, the pressure in the second tank is reduced to cause the member to expand, thereby introducing ink into the same. This introduction is stopped by regulating the expansion with a displaceable unit which expands when the pressure is reduced. The regulation is performed at such a position that the negative pressure generated in the member by canceling regulation is in equilibrium with an ink meniscus-holding ability of the printing head.

A control circuit for a glow plug assembly serving as an engine preheating apparatus is designed so as to effect a temperature control in conformity with the specified position established by selective operation of a key switch having three switching positions, i.e., OFF, ON and START positions. The control circuit comprises a first switch connected between the glow plug assembly and a power source, and a series circuit comprising a second switch connected parallel with the first switch and a resistor. The control circuit is capable of effecting three modes of operation: One is that, when the second switch is switched from OFF position to ON position, the first switch is turned on to rapidly effect a preheating of the engine, and is turned off to interrupt the preheating action when the temperature of the glow plug assembly reaches a predetermined value: Second is that, when a key switch is shifted to the START position, the second switch is turned on and the first switch is intermittently turned on to effect a heat retaining operation so that the temperature suitable for starting the engine is maintained; Third is that, when the key switch is switched from START position to ON position, the first switch is turned off while solely the second switch is turned on thereby to maintain the glow plug assembly at a low temperature.

An ink-jet printing apparatus and an ink-jet printing method allow the printing of an image with high quality without causing a change in ink color formed on the printing medium while keeping the printing conditions constant regardless of changing of the number of nozzles to be printed and the amount of transferring of the printing medium. This printing is performed, for example, by restricting use of the number of nozzles, which belong to a nozzle row located on an upstream side in the sub-scan direction, before changing the amount of transferring of the printing medium; and restricting use of the number of nozzles, which belong to the nozzle rows located on a downstream side in the sub-scan direction, after changing the amount of transferring of the printing medium.
