    摘要: A liquid crystal display (LCD) device comprises a first substrate including a thin film transistor (TFT), a second substrate, and a liquid crystal (LC) layer of liquid crystal molecules. The LC layer is interposed by the first and second substrates. The first substrate includes a reflective electrode in a reflective region and a transmissive electrode in a transmissive region. The LC layer includes a first group of liquid crystal molecules aligned in the reflective region to provide a first retardation and a second group of liquid crystal molecules aligned in the transmissive region to provide a second retardation. The second retardation is different from the first retardation.

    摘要: A color filter substrate in an active-matrix LCD device has a glass substrate, and a black matrix, coloring layers and an orientation film which are consecutively formed on the glass substrate. The projected surfaces of the coloring layers due to overlapping with the black matrix are polished to reduce the width of the slope surfaces of the projected surface of the coloring layers. The polishing of the coloring layers prevents a disclination caused by the slope surface.

    摘要: An active matrix type liquid crystal display apparatus can reduce occurrence of flicker, which can be a cause of degradation of picture quality even in a particular fixed pattern, by using a data driver circuit constantly inverting polarity of voltage of adjacent outputs. The active matrix type liquid crystal display apparatus has display picture elements, each consisting of four pixels of first to four pixels arranged vertically and horizontally per two, scanning lines, each being in common for the four pixels, data lines arranged per two on opposite sides of vertically aligned two pixels, a common electrode being common for the four pixels, and a data driver circuit for writing voltages from the datalines simultaneously for the four pixels of each picture element when the one scanning line is selected. The pixels are located at the same position in laterally adjacent picture elements being connected to data lines at different sides relative to each other. The data driver circuit is controlled to apply different polarities of voltages to adjacent data lines with respect to a voltage for the common electrode, and to invert polarities of the voltages to be applied to respective data lines with respect to the voltage of the common electrode when the scanning line is selected.
