A multi-zone restaurant type of griddle is modularly constructed so that all maintenance may be done at the front of the griddle housing. The griddle plate is only three-eights of an inch thick with heat being spread uniformly by an aluminum plate in intimate contact with the bottom of the griddle plate. A thermocouple temperature sensing element is located at the bottom of a hole in the underside of the griddle plate so that the element is very near the cooking surface and is sensitive to the temperature of the load on the cooking surface, as distinguished from being sensitive to the temperature of the heating element below the griddle plate. With the modular construction, the front access, and light weight, all of the repairable parts of the griddle may be removed and replaced by one man as distinguished from most prior art griddles where two-man service teams were routinely required because they had to lift and invert a very heavy griddle which had a very thick steel griddle plate.

A top grill is pivotally supported from the supporting handle near its front and captivated thereto near its rear to permit a limited range of angular movement with respect to the supporting handle. A pressurized gas cylinder is positioned between the support bracket and a cross member joining the supporting handle legs for counterbalancing the weight of the top grill. The gas cylinder may be attached to a bracket in a plurality of positions for varying the pressure applied by the top grill when lowered into the cooking position. A thermostat housing is mounted to the cross member and a cord guide maintains the electrical cord in a safe orientation.

A method for preparing scrambled eggs on a grill surface, wherein liquid scrambled eggs mix are placed within an egg ring having a lower edge portion in intimate contact with a heated grill surface and the egg ring is moved repeatedly to and fro, preferably in a reciprocating motion, while maintaining the lower edge portion of the egg ring in intimate contact with the grill surface. The egg mix is rapidly moved within the confines of the egg ring, and that rapid movement is continued until the egg mix has congealed into a mass of cooked scrambled egg. Desirably a carriage mounts a plurality of egg rings, and each mounts a comb-like member which engages, moves, and mixes the eggs in the egg ring as the egg ring moves to and fro. The to and fro movement is such that it produces a wave-like motion of the liquid eggs during a first portion of the cycle of rapid movement of the eggs.

An electric crepe maker having a base and a separate skillet-like crepe-making-pan. The base has a heating plate with a configuration which is complementary to the inner surface of the pan whereby the pan is adapted to be supported thereon in an inverted position in heat exchange contact therewith during the cooking of a crepe on the outer surface thereof. The crepe pan may also be supported on the heating plate in an upright position for cooking other foods in a conventional manner.
