摘要： A metal stamping die for a punch press is provided that has a programmable logic microcontroller fixed directly to the die body of the stamping die. The programmable logic microcontroller is encased in epoxy resin to protect it from contaminants and to protect it from vibration which will occur as the punch press operates to stamp metal parts. Sensing devices on the stamping die are electrically connected through passages in the stamping die to the programmable logic microcontroller. An annunciator panel is positioned on the programmable logic microcontroller and has light emitting diodes to indicate the type of malfunction in the die which causes the punch press to stop when a malfunction occurs.

摘要： A die punch includes a shank configured to operably engage a tool holder on a die, and a tip extending from the shank, the tip being configured to punch a hole in sheet material. A conductor extends from the shank to the tip along a longitudinally extending passageway in the punch. The conductor is insulated from the shank but electrically connected to said tip at one end by a bridge so that an electrical circuit is defined from the conductor through the bridge and tip to the shank. A first electrical contact is connected to the trailing end of the conductor and insulated from the shank, and a second contact is secured to the shank, either on the side or the end of the shank. The punch holder includes a pair of corresponding contacts so that the punch is electrically connected to the press control circuitry when the punch is secured in the punch holder. The continuity of the electrical circuit is continuously monitored to determine if the tip of the punch has been broken. When the punch tip breaks, the press is immediately signaled and stopped before a significant number of defective parts are made. In one embodiment, a paint is located in the passageway of the punch so that it marks a part as being defective if the punch tip breaks.

摘要： A press control system monitors and is responsive to the loads associated with individual die stations in a progressive die. The system detects chipped, dull, or excessively loaded portions of the progressive die and provides automatic quality monitoring of the parts produced by the press. The system provides a display of press load as a function of time scaled by the speed of the press. The press load as a function of time is automatically analyzed to determine and display the number of die stations and the peak loads associated with each die station in the progressive die. The peak loads are compared to limit values that depend in part on the past history of the press in order to monitor the condition of the progressive die and if necessary to shut down the press. The number and quality of parts produced by the press are also determined from the peak loads. Gradual wear of the die is monitored to determined when sharpening is required. To detect anomalies at any phase in the press cycle, the press load is compared between successive cycles. A master/slave computer system is disclosed for monitoring and controlling multiple presses.

摘要： The specification discloses the operation of a multistate safety indicator on a press device having a plurality of run switches. Circuitry is provided for placing the indicator in an on state when the press is ready to be energized. Circuitry is responsive to actuation of one of the run switches for placing the indicator in an intermittent flashing state for a predetermined timed interval. Circuitry is responsive to the actuation of the remainder of the run switches during the predetermined time interval for placing the indicator in the on state to indicate operation of the press. Circuitry is also provided to place the indicator in the off state if the remainder of the run switches are not actuated during the predetermined time interval.
