Abstract: The invention discloses synergistic combinations of surfactant blends and cleaning compositions employing the same. In certain embodiments a surfactant system is disclosed which includes an extended anionic surfactant with novel co-surfactants including one or more of an alkyl glycerol ether, an ethoxylated alkyl glycerol ether, an alcohol ethoxylate and/or a gemini surfactant. This system forms emulsions with, and can remove greasy and oily stains, even those comprised of non-trans fats. The compositions may be used alone, as a pre-spotter or other pre-treatment or as a part of a soft surface or hard surface cleaning composition.

Abstract: Systems for and methods of monitoring and analyzing deposit in an industrial water system are provided. The methods comprise heating a substrate while the substrate contacts industrial water in the industrial water system to form deposit on the substrate. A series of digital images of the substrate while the substrate contacts the industrial water in the industrial water system is created. A region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is defined. A deposit feature in the region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is identified. The deposit feature in the region of interest in the series of digital images of the substrate is analyzed to determine a deposit trend of the substrate in the industrial water system. Generally, the systems are configured so as to be capable of carrying out one or more of the methods.

Abstract: Organic water conditioning agents may be added to an aqueous stream that is supplied to a steam generator, such as a heat recovery steam generator within a combined cycle power plant. These organic water conditioning agents may degrade to electrically-charged decomposition products that can interfere with cation conductivity measurements made on the aqueous stream. To allow deployment of the organic water conditioning agents, a sampling device can process aqueous samples to destroy interfering organic molecules, such as through heat or irradiation. Cation conductivity measurements can then be made on the aqueous sample after destroying and removing interfering organic species from the sample stream.

Abstract: Systems and techniques can be used to invert an emulsion polymer under ultra-high shear. In some examples, a method for inverting an emulsion involves introducing the emulsion into a process liquid to form a dilute emulsion. The emulsion may be defined by a continuous phase and a discontinuous phase containing a polymer, with the polymer being soluble in the process liquid but the continuous phase being immiscible in the process liquid. A fluid pressurization device can pressurize the dilute emulsion to form a pressurized dilute emulsion. Thereafter, the pressurized dilute emulsion can be passed through a multi-channel flow restrictor, such as a capillary bundle, thereby generating a shear force for dispersing and inverting the emulsion in the process liquid.

Abstract: A method for efficiently removal of oxidised selenium from liquid, such as FGD wastewater. The method involves adding a non-iron-based reducing agent (e.g. sodium dithionite) and preferably Fe(II) ions to the liquid at a pH of above 7.5 or 8 and precipitating elemental selenium from the liquid.

Abstract: The invention relates to a non-corrosive degreasing concentrate and ready to use formulation. In particular, non-corrosive compositions capable of removing polymerized grease as effectively as some alkali metal hydroxide (i.e. caustic) based degreasers without requiring the use of personal protective equipment are disclosed.

Abstract: A soil-based coupon having an electronically readable verification code printed thereon is used for verification of soil removal by a cleaning process. The coupon includes a soil overlay covering the verification code. The verification code is at least partially revealed by removal of all or part of the soil overlay during the cleaning process. If the data encoded in the verification code can be correctly decoded after completion of the cleaning process, the cleaning process can be verified. The soil overlay can be designed to match the application. The coupons may be used in a cleaning process verification procedure in which one or more computing devices analyze images of the verification codes to determine whether or not cleaning processes can be verified.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to improved methods for inhibiting the formation and deposition of sulfide and silica scale in aqueous systems. In particular, the methods include injecting a composition into an aqueous system or wellbore. The composition includes a sulfide scale inhibitor and a silica scale inhibitor. The sulfide scale inhibitor may be a copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and an anionic monomer. The silica scale inhibitor may be a copolymer of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and an alkoxylated monomer.

Abstract: Multipurpose acidic compositions for cleaning and/or sanitizing are provided. The acidic compositions are liquids that remove polymerized soils, hard water deposit (e.g., calcium carbonate), soap scum, rust and other stains (e.g., coffee and tea), including assisting in general cleaning of difficult soils, such as fats, oils, cosmetics, and other difficult soils. The acidic compositions can include at least one organic acid and a solvent or solvent system, and if desired, can be PPE free compositions. Methods for using the acidic compositions as pre-treatments, soaks and/or application in machine and manual warewash are also provided. Methods for using the acidic compositions for removing polymerized oils, carbonized soils, fats, oils, stains (e.g., coffee and tea), hard water scale/deposits, and cosmetics are also provided.
