Abstract: A valve assembly for an exhaust system of a vehicle. The valve assembly includes a first housing, a second housing, a valve flap and a spring. The first housing defines an inlet, an outlet, and an exhaust gas passageway in fluid communication with the inlet and the outlet. The second housing is attached to the first housing and defines a compartment. The valve flap is rotatable between a first position restricting exhaust gas flow through the exhaust gas passageway, and a second position whereat exhaust gas flow through the exhaust gas passageway is allowed. The spring is disposed in the compartment and out of the exhaust gas passageway. The spring engages the valve flap to bias the valve flap toward the first position.

Abstract: A damper includes a pressure tube defining a first end and a second end opposite to the first end. The pressure tube includes a primary section extending from the first end and a reduced-diameter section extending from the second end. The damper includes a primary piston slidably disposed within the pressure tube. The primary piston defines a rebound chamber and a compression chamber within the pressure tube. The damper further includes a secondary piston movable with the primary piston. The damper includes a sleeve connected to the pressure tube and surrounding the reduced-diameter section. The damper also includes a base valve. The pressure tube and the sleeve define an intermediate chamber therebetween. The pressure tube further defines at least one tube opening to fluidly communicate the compression chamber with the intermediate chamber.

Abstract: A damper bumper cap for covering the rod side end of the damper tube containing a piston rod seal and for retaining a dust cover on the damper tube. The cap includes a side wall positioned in contact with the damper tube, an end wall that extends radially inwardly over the piston rod seal, and an annular skirt that is spaced radially outward of the side wall. First and second groups of connection wall segments extend radially between the side wall and the annular skirt at different heights to define vent openings in the spaces between the connection wall segments in the first and second groups of connection wall segments. The vent openings thus provide a plurality of tortuous airflow paths through the cap at circumferentially spaced locations.

Abstract: A valve assembly includes a first valve plate defining at least one first opening and at least one second opening. A valve element located above the first valve plate has a central portion, and at least one tab extending outwards from the central portion. The at least one tab includes a narrow portion axially aligned with the at least one first opening such that the narrow portion at least partially covers the at least one first opening. The at least one tab is selectively provided with electrical energy to melt the narrow portion to form an orifice. The orifice is fluidly coupled with the at least one first opening.

Abstract: An exhaust component for a motor vehicle with improved corrosion resistance, including an internal volume, an inlet for receiving exhaust gas, and an outlet for expelling exhaust gas. The exhaust component includes at least one wall that is made of a diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet. The diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet comprises a secondary metal that is formed to a primary metal substrate by diffusion. The primary metal substrate of the diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet is a stainless steel containing at least 10 percent chromium. The secondary metal of the diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet is a metal alloy containing 20 to 35 percent chromium. As a result, the secondary metal of the diffusion surface alloyed metal sheet provides improved corrosion resistance to salt spray and urea.

Abstract: A shock absorber includes a pressure tube forming a working chamber. A reserve tube is concentric with and radially outward from the pressure tube. A baffle is positioned radially outward from the pressure tube. A reservoir chamber is formed between the reserve tube and the baffle. A piston is attached to a piston rod and slidably disposed within the pressure tube. A rod guide is attached to the pressure tube and supports the piston rod. An electromechanical valve is positioned within the rod guide. A plurality of non-linear passageways are disposed between the baffle and at least one of the pressure tube and the reserve tube for transporting fluid between the electromechanical valve and the reservoir chamber.

Abstract: A DEF injector is configured to inject DEF into an exhaust system of a vehicle. A DEF pump includes an electric motor configured to drive a compression mechanism and pumps the DEF to the DEF injector. A pressure sensor is configured to measure a pressure of the DEF output from the DEF pump. A sampling module is configured to, based on a rotational position of an output shaft of the electric motor, selectively output samples of the pressure. A measurement module is configured to determine a measured pressure at the pressure sensor based on a present one of the samples and a last one of the samples output before the present one of the samples. A pump control module is configured to apply power from a power source to the electric motor based on a difference between the measured pressure and a target pressure.

Abstract: A valve assembly for an exhaust system includes a conduit, a valve flap disposed within an exhaust passageway for controlling exhaust flow through the exhaust passageway, a shaft supporting the valve flap in the exhaust passageway for rotation about a pivot axis, and a mass damper disposed external to the conduit and coupled to the shaft. The mass damper includes a longitudinal segment coupled to the shaft. The mass damper also includes a first damping mass that is disposed proximal to a first end of the longitudinal segment and is linearly movable along a centerline axis to a first distance with respect to the pivot axis. The mass damper further includes a second damping mass that is disposed proximal to a second end of the longitudinal segment and is linearly movable along the centerline axis to a second distance with respect to the pivot axis.
