Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications provide for transmission of a beam switch command to a user equipment (UE) via control channel signaling. The UE may establish a connection with a base station using a first transmission beam, receive configuration information configuring the UE to select between a first decoding hypothesis corresponding to downlink control information (DCI) including a bit field including a beam switch command and a second decoding hypothesis corresponding to the DCI not including the bit field, receive a downlink control channel transmission via the first transmission beam, decode the downlink control channel transmission in accordance with the configuration information to obtain decoded DCI, and communicate with the base station based at least in part on the decoded DCI.

Abstract: Various aspects described herein relate to techniques for signaling and using one or more virtual cell identifications (V-cell IDs) for single frequency network (SFN)-type of transmissions in wireless communications systems. A method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. In an aspect, the method may include performing, by a user equipment (UE), a cell search to obtain a cell ID, and decoding, by the UE, a message based on the cell ID, wherein the message includes a master information block (MIB). The method may further include identifying, by the UE, a virtual cell ID used for SFN-type transmissions based on information decoded from the message. The techniques described herein may apply to different communications technologies, including 5th Generation (5G) New Radio (NR) communications technology.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to methods and apparatus for code rate selection for control channels. An exemplary method generally includes selecting, from a set of code rates, a code rate to be used to encode a stream of bits using a polar code, based on at least one of a downlink control channel aggregation size, an uplink control channel assignment, or a payload size of the stream of bits, encoding the stream of bits using the polar code and the selected code rate, and transmitting the encoded stream of bits.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for measurement and recovery of beamformed transmission beams in which an uplink beam and a downlink beam may be decoupled beams that use different beamforming parameters. In the event that a user equipment (UE) detects a failure of the downlink beam, an indication may be provided to a base station, and the downlink beam may be switched to correspond to the uplink beam. In the event that the UE detects a failure of the uplink beam the UE may identify a candidate beam and transmit a beam recovery message to the base station. The downlink beam may have an associated first set of reference signals, and the uplink beam may have an associated second set of reference signals, and beam failure may be determined based on the different sets of reference signals.

Abstract: Aspects of beam specific scrambling of reference and data signals are disclosed. In an example, a user equipment (UE) receives a plurality of beams from a base station and determines payloads of a first control signal of a first beam of the plurality of beams and a second control signal of a second beam of the plurality of beams are a same payload. The UE also compares signal quality characteristics of the first control signal the second control signal when the payloads are the same payload and selects a better quality beam from the first beam and the second beam for decoding a data signal of the better quality beam in response to the comparison. The UE also decodes the data signal of the better quality beam.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to deriving spatial receive parameters for quasi-colocation at a user equipment (UE). An exemplary method generally includes receiving a plurality of beams from a base station in a plurality of coarse directions, determining, based on the plurality of beams, a first spatial colocation parameter, transmitting an indication of a coarse direction associated with a beam having a highest receive strength of the plurality of beams, receiving a plurality of second beams from the base station based on the indication, the plurality of second beams having a narrower beam width than the plurality of beams and covering a beam width of the beam associated with the indicated coarse direction, determining, based on the plurality of second beams, a second spatial colocation parameter, transmitting an indication of the second beam having a highest receive strength, and refining at least one of the first or second spatial colocation parameters.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for transmissions of multiple instances of control information, such as remaining minimum system information (RMSI), that may be used for system access by a user equipment (UE). The multiple instances of the control information may be combined at the UE to enhance the likelihood of successful decoding of the control information. A base station may transmit an indication that combining of multiple instances of control information is supported by the base station, and may transmit the multiple instances of control information via configured downlink transmission resources. A UE may receive the indication that combining of multiple control information instances is supported, may identify two or more instances within downlink transmission resources configured for control information transmissions, and may combine signals received in each of the two or more instances to generate a combined control information signal.
