    Abstract: A method of operating terminal in a wireless communication system includes receiving, from a base station, system information including information on a first discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle; transmitting, to an access and mobility management function (AMF), a request message including information on a second DRX cycle based on the first DRX cycle; receiving, from the AMF, a response message about the request message, wherein the response message includes information determined based on whether the AMF assigns the second DRX cycle; and determining a DRX cycle of the terminal based on the response message.

    Abstract: Disclosed are a communication technique for merging, with IoT technology, a 5G communication system for supporting a data transmission rate higher than that of a 4G system, and a system thereof. The present disclosure can be applied to an intelligent service (for example, smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, healthcare, digital education, retail, security and safety-related services, and the like), based on a 5G communication technology and an IoT-related technology. One embodiment of the present invention relates to a method by which a terminal updates system information, and a terminal for performing the method, which comprises the steps of: acquiring first system information and second system information from a first cell; starting a timer corresponding to the second system information; determining whether the second cell is a cell that shares the second system information with the first cell, if the terminal has moved from the first cell to the second cell; and updating the second system information on the basis of the determination result.

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to a communication method and system for converging a 5th-generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4th-generation (4G) system with a technology for Internet of things (IoT). A method is provided for a terminal to transmit uplink data without a transmission resource previously allocated by a base station in a next generation mobile communication system. A method by a terminal includes while the terminal is in an inactive mode, receiving a paging message from a base station, identifying a paging identifier included in the paging message, if the paging identifier corresponds to a core network (CN) paging identifier, transmitting a first radio resource control (RRC) message, and if the paging identifier corresponds to a radio access network (RAN) paging identifier, transmitting a second RRC message.
