Abstract:
Methods, systems and computer program products for providing roaming services to a wireless telephone roaming outside of its home service area by receiving a request for roaming service from a wireless telephone that is within a roaming network and offering a special roaming contract to the user of the wireless telephone. The request for services comprises an identify of the wireless telephone wherein the identity comprises the mobile identification number and the electronic serial number. Using the identity of the wireless telephone received in the request, the roaming network determines that the wireless telephone identity is not recorded as a record within the roaming network and is therefore roaming. The method provides offering a special roaming contract to the user and then executing the special roaming contract if the user decides to accept the offer for a special roaming contract.
Abstract:
A hand-held communication device, such as a mobile telephone or personal digital assistant, containing a camera is provided with the capability to distinguish printing from graphics in an image and to magnify and enhance the printing for display on the device. The device can thus aid a user in a situation needing visual enhancement, such as in a darkened restaurant.
Abstract:
Provided is a method for creating comprehensive backup files in a computing system on an application by application basis. An application is selected for backup and the output of the application is monitored with regard to the creation and modification of files. Files designated for backup may be stored on the same computer system as the selected application or accessible via a network. A properties menu enables a user to designate a particular application, either at the time of installation, retroactively or subsequently, as a “backup monitor” application by setting an application monitor flag within a configuration file associated in the alternative with the application, the operating system or with the backup monitor application. In addition, a number of security settings, or “filters,” may be designated to cull the files listed for backup based upon some property of the file.
Abstract:
Provided is a system for providing a “push-to-view” (P2V) capability in conjunction with telecommunication devices. When a key, button or switch on a telecommunication device is pressed or switched, a camera at a remote site is activated. An image is then transmitted from the remote camera and displayed on the communication device. A P2V button enables the function. A separate button enables a user to toggle the P2V button back and forth between the P2V functionality and a push-to-talk functionality. A remote site can either be predefined or selected from a number of possibilities displayed in an address book. A remote device can be configured to automatically accept the view request or may determine whether or not to accept the request based upon the identity of the requesting party and/or other factors. An audio or visual indicator is activated during the viewing action unless a stealth mode is selected.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method for multiple dialing by phone. The method for multiple dialing includes: programming the phone with a configurable software algorithm that provides the phone with a multiple dialing feature; triggering the multiple dialing feature; and, causing the phone to place calls to each phone number in a set of pre-programmed phone numbers by sending a transmission to each of the numbers. Calls to each of the pre-programmed phone numbers in the set may be placed by sending a transmission to each of the numbers either serially or in parallel.
Abstract:
A system and method are presented for updating directory entries within an electronic communication device upon receipt of an electronic notification. Electronic communication devices may include, but are not limited to telephones, facsimile machines and electronic organizers. The system and method as described herein allows a portion of a directory entry, which may be referred to as an entry content value, to be updated within a directory of an electronic communication device upon the receipt of an altered value. For example, if a user calls a telephone number of a person listed in a directory entry of the telephone and receives a message stating that the number has been changed, the new number may be electronically transmitted to the directory of the telephone. The transfer searches the directory of the telephone for the existing entry and updates the changed entry content value. Thus, the other entry content values within the directory are not changed.
Abstract:
A method and system for providing a running image of an operating system on a removable operating system module to multiple computer systems. The removable operating system module includes a memory unit for storing the running image of the operating system. Upon insertion of the module into a computer system, a BIOS loads the operating system from the removable operating system module and initiates the execution of the operating system. In response to a request by the user, the BIOS may resume or restart the operating system. The operating system may also discover any available local and remote devices, resume any available previously running applications, and perform tasks requested by the applications and the user. In response to a user's removal request, the state of the operating system is saved on the module and the removable operating system module is removed from the computer system.
Abstract:
Inserting into a document at least one screen image of a computer software application including inserting a macro at a location in the document for the screen image, the macro including instructions for navigating the computer software application to the screen image and for capturing the screen image and executing the macro. In typical embodiments, inserting a macro at a location in the document for the screen image also includes navigating the computer software application to the screen image by a user's operations of user interface controls and capturing the user's operations of user interface controls as instructions for navigating the computer software application to the screen image. Typical embodiments also include executing the macro by navigating the computer software application to the screen image and storing the screen image in computer memory. Executing the macro may include executing the macro for a language in dependence upon regional configuration settings.
Abstract:
A method, system, and program for security screening of electronic devices by device-reported data are provided. A device scanner system at a security checkpoint queries a powered on electronic device for device-reported data via a network connection. The device-reported data may include the operational status of at least one component of the electronic device, a configuration of the electronic device, and a current ownership of the electronic device. Responsive to receiving the device-reported data, the device scanner system retrieves expected data for the electronic device. Then, the device scanner system assigns a security level to the electronic device indicating whether the device-reported data matches the expected data, such that the electronic device is screened based on data reported by the powered on electronic device.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and computer instructions for managing multi-threaded conversations in an instant messaging system. The present invention provides a menu option to allow the start of a new topic of discussion within the current instant messaging session. When a new topic is selected, a new thread of conversation is created within the messaging window that is segregated from previous topics of discussion. This new thread of conversation may be created at all other locations for all of the parties involved in the instant messaging session. In this manner, each party to a messaging session containing multiple conversations may be able to understand which response is related to which thread of conversation. In addition, a menu option may be provided by the instant messaging application to allow a user to merge one or more of the threaded conversations into a single conversation.
