Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive a first indication of a set of reference signal instances within a set of resources. The UE may receive a second indication of a resource element format of a reference signal instance of the set of reference signal instances, the resource element format including one or more null resource elements and one or more reference signal resource elements. The UE may additionally receive, from a base station, a reference signal for estimating carrier frequency offset (CFO) based on the first indication of the set of reference signal instances and the second indication of the resource element format of the reference signal instance. The UE may then communicate with the base station based on receiving the reference signal.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network may be configured to provide a beam measurement configuration to a UE that indicates durations for monitoring transmission beams, and tuning a component of the UE between the monitoring. The durations may include a first portion that a UE may use for a tuning operation and a second portion that the UE may use to monitor for or measure a respective reference signal. In various examples, the indicated durations may include a third portion that the UE may use for another tuning operation, or the durations may overlap with one another during an overlap duration that the UE may use for another tuning operation. During the indicated durations, the network may refrain from transmitting other downlink data or control information for the UE, and the UE may refrain from monitoring for such other downlink data or control information.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may transmit buffer status information using configured periodic uplink resources. For example, a base station may configure dedicated periodic uplink resources, periodic random access resources, or periodic uplink grants to enable the UE to transmit the buffer status information. In some cases, the periodic random access resources may enable the UE to transmit a first message of a four-step or two-step random access procedure to indicate the buffer status information. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may configure a type of scheduling request for the UE to transmit that can indicate whether a buffer size falls within a range, where the base station then can more accurately allocate uplink resources in an uplink grant for the UE to transmit the uplink data based on receiving this type of scheduling request.
