    Abstract: A method for video processing includes determining that a size of a residual block of a video is larger than a maximum block size allowed for a transform skip mode, in which, during a decoding operation, residual coefficients are decoded without performing an inverse transform operation; splitting, based on the size of a residual block, the residual block into multiple regions, wherein each region represents a portion of the residual block of a difference between a portion of a current video block and a prediction block corresponding to the portion of the current video block; and determining a reconstructed current video block from the residual block based on selectively performing the inverse transform operation according to an indicator that indicates the transform skip mode.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for performing entropy coding for the palette escape symbol in palette mode coding and decoding are described. An example method for video processing includes performing a conversion between a video comprising one or more video regions comprising a current video block and a bitstream representation of the video, wherein the bitstream representation conforms to a format rule that the current video block is coded using a palette mode coding tool, wherein a binarization of an escape symbol for the current video block uses an exponential-Golomb (EG) code of order K, wherein K is a non-negative integer that is unequal to three, and wherein the palette mode coding tool represents the current video block using a palette of representative color values and wherein the escape symbol is used for a sample of the current video block coded without using the representative color values.

    Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for digital video coding, which includes matrix-based intra prediction methods for video coding, are described. In a representative aspect, a method for video processing includes encoding a current video block of a video using a matrix intra prediction (MIP) mode in which a prediction block of the current video block is determined by performing, on previously coded samples of the video, a boundary downsampling operation, followed by a matrix vector multiplication operation, and selectively followed by an upsampling operation; and adding, to a coded representation of the current video block, a syntax element indicative of applicability of the MIP mode to the current video block using arithmetic coding in which a context for the syntax element is derived based on a rule.
