A method of forming a reinforced polymer film structure is disclosed that includes the steps of slitting a biaxially oriented polymer film web having a top face and a bottom face into a first portion and a second portion, identifying the first portion and the second portion, and placing the first portion atop the second portion, such that the bottom face of the first portion is adjacent the top face of the second portion. This structure provides an impact and tear resistant laminate. Also disclosed is a method of forming a polymer film structure by identifying a molecular orientation direction profile of two portions of biaxially oriented polymer film and layering the two portions such that a molecular orientation direction profile of one does not coincide with a molecular orientation direction profile of the other.

A packaging system for transporting an article includes: a base; a pair of opposing side walls resting on the base; a cross member extending between the side walls; and a block removably attached to said base. The removable block has a first portion with an upper surface; a lower surface; a first side surface extending between the upper and lower surfaces; and an aperture extending through the block to accommodate a fastener therein for securing the block to the shipping container. The block optionally include a toe portion extending from the first side surface of the first portion. The toe portion is receivable within a portion of the shipping container. Alternatively, the packaging system could include: a base; a pair of side walls resting on the base; a cross member extending between the side walls; and a bracket removably attached to a notch in a distal end of one of the side walls to receive the cross member therein. The bracket includes a base; and a pair of arms extending from the base. An opening is formed between the base and the arms to receive a component of the shipping container therein.

A multi-layered sheet product is provided which is useful as a release backing for pressure sensitive adhesive labels or as a liner for foodstuff containers and trays. The sheet product has a polymeric layer and a cellulosic layer laminated together and having an adhesive layer therebetween. A substantially uniform silicone coating is provided on a surface of the polymeric layer opposite the surface adhered to the cellulosic layer. The polymeric layer surface having the silicone coating thereon constitutes a smooth surface which, when the product is used as a release backing, minimizes distortion of the adhesive surface of an adhesive label upon separation of the label from the sheet product, an important feature for use with transparent labels. When used as a release liner for foodstuff containers and trays, the polymeric layer prevents absorption by the cellulosic layer of water from the foodstuff. Use of an oriented polyester as the polymeric layer, provides excellent tear resistance, dimensional stability and stiffness in an extremely thin laminated sheet product.
