A display medium including a plurality of electrically photosensitive particles positioned within at least one ambipolar shell to form at least one first composite particle, and a plurality of white particles encapsulated in a plurality of insulating shells to form a plurality of second composite particles. A photoelectrophoretic display and method of photoelectrophoretic imaging are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of creating simulated, photographic-quality prints using transparent polyester substrates such as Mylar.RTM.; polypropylene, and the like. Reverse or wrong reading images are formed on the substrate using a linear or crosslinked low melt polyester toner and mixtures thereof. The reverse or wrong reading images are permanently adhered to the polyester substrate followed by the application of a backing member to the imaged transparent substrate. The backing member is characterized by being opaque and being coated with linear or crosslinked low melt polyester resin system to generate high fidelity, grain free photographic-quality images with reduced curl and improved adhesion due to similar rheological responses of the compatible materials in the toner, imaging substrate and the backing substrate.

An improved electrostatographic process wherein the imaging surface of the imaging member is treated with a lubricating effective amount of a compound selected from the group consisting of ortho-, meta-, para-phthalic acid, their corresponding metal or ammonium salts, and mixtures thereof. Controlled treatment of the imaging surfaces of the imaging member with the above compound(s) facilitates transfer of the developed image from the imaging member to a receiving sheet and removal of toner residues from the imaging surface upon cleaning. The imaging member element of the apparatus used in carrying out this process is covered with a thin film of lubricant over substantially all of its imaging surface thereby greatly improving toner transfer and removal.

Disclosed is a composition comprising a matrix which comprises particles comprising a core resin and a shell resin thereover, wherein at least one of the core resin and the shell resin contains a chelating agent and a spiropyran compound of the formula wherein n is an integer representing the number of repeat —CH2— units and R is —H or —CH═CH2, wherein the shell resin is the continuous phase of the matrix, wherein the spiropyran compound can produce changes in the optical and photoactive properties of the resin containing the spiropyran when irradiated.
