Abstract:
A method of determining solid particle surface energy includes placing solid particles in a container made of a very high surface energy material and pouring a liquid into the container. The method further includes tilting the container to drain out from the container a first subset of the solid particles floating at a top surface of the liquid and tilting the container to move the liquid away from a second subset of the solid particles that are below the top surface. The method also includes tilting the container to move the liquid back toward the second subset of the solid particles such that at least a portion of the second subset of particles floats at the top surface of the liquid and tilting the container to drain out from the container the portion of the second subset of the solid particles now floating at the top surface of the liquid.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a process for the production of high-capacity kish graphitic lithium-insertion anode materials and negative electrodes prepared therefrom for lithium-ion batteries. The graphitic materials are produced by precipitating excess carbon present in supersaturated solutions of carbon in iron/steel uninoculated or inoculated with metals/metalloid singly or in combination. The form of carbon used for dissolution is a carbon-containing polymeric precursor such as biomaterials and non-biodegradable plastic wastes, the carbonization of which can be carried out in situ or prior to addition in the melt. The graphitic products deliver reversible capacities between 300 and 600 mAh·g−1 with flat voltage profiles for electrochemical insertion/deinsertion of lithium at potentials less than 200 mV.

Abstract:
Methods, systems, electronic displays, and computer-readable storage devices for displaying media files can include a search entry field displaying an active search query defining parameters of a playlist identifying one or more media files satisfying the parameters. A playback indicator displaying information related to a selected media file from the playlist can be included. Category indicators can be included that each display a distinct media category associated with the playlist. The parameters of the playlist can be defined by at least one attribute of a media category that is not displayed by the category indicators. One or more selectable attribute indicators can be included, and each can display an attribute of a media category associated with one of the media category indicators. Selecting an attribute indicator can modify the active search query, thereby further defining the parameters of the playlist and automatically updating the playlist in real time.
Abstract:
A wireline communications circuit using transceivers compatible with a wireless communications protocol is disclosed using access points and stations in an adaptive Time Division Multiple Access scheme for a multi-channel medium with colocated transceivers. Methods of operating an access point and a station, their implementations as chips and the implementation of a chip for either the access point or station are further disclosed.
Abstract:
A fiber optical parametric oscillator is formed using photonic crystal fibers, also known as microstructure fibers or holey fibers. The optical parametric oscillator includes only a few meters of microstructure fiber. In one embodiment, the microstructure fiber is disposed between a highly reflective mirror and a diffraction grating in a simple Fabry-Perot configuration wherein the diffraction grating is tuned to reflect a particular wavelength of the signal wave back to the microstructure fiber. In another embodiment, the microstructure fiber is disposed in a ring cavity and the parametric oscillator is synchronously pumped. The parametric oscillator may be implemented with free space optics or use all fiber optic components.
Abstract:
