Abstract: The locking device is provided for waste containers. The locking device allows the lid of the container, when the container is in an upright position, to be locked to prevent unauthorized access to the container. When the container is tilted from the upright position, e.g., to empty the contents of the container, the locking device is gravity actuated to allow the lid to open automatically. Abstract: The invention generally relates to a closure device for waste containers, particularly residential or commercial waste containers. In particular, the invention relates to a waste container closure device which prevents the lid from opening when the container is accidentally tipped over on its side. The closure device contains two straps: a right side strap and a left side strap; two mounting devices: a right side mounting device and a left side mounting device; and one or more elastic members. Those components cooperate to allow the straps to connect over the top of the lid of the waste container to remain closed when it is accidentally tipped on its side.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to waste containers and, more particularly, relates to a safety locking device for waste containers. The locking device contains a base unit and a pivoting unit pivotally mounted to the base unit. The base unit contains a pinion member, having a cam thereon, non-movably attached to the base member. The pivoting unit includes a lock casing defining a cavity which houses a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism contains a locking member which is pivotally movable between a blocking position to prevent relative movement between the pivoting unit and the base unit, and a release position to permit the relative movement between the pivoting unit and the base unit.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to locking devices for waste containers, particularly residential or commercial waste containers. The present invention also relates to a waste container having a locking device which keeps the container closed when a sudden jerking or jarring, such as ground impact, is applied on the container, but allows the container to be opened during the dumping or tipping process. The locking device contains an impact detecting paddle or rolling member to provide a mechanical impact sensor that can detect whether the container has been unintendedly tipped over in the forward direction or whether it is being tipped over, such as for dumping.

Abstract: The invention relates to locking devices, more particularly, gravity actuated locking devices, e.g., for waste containers. The locking device is designed to be fixed to a container and contains a gravity operated locking mechanism and a locking unit that couples the gravity operated locking mechanism to a locking bar. The locking bar allows the lid of the container to be blocked or opened depending upon the relative position of the locking bar to the lid. In the blocked position, the locking bar sits over the lid and does not allow it to be opened. In the opened position, the locking bar is removed from the lid and allows the lid to be opened. When in the container is in the upright position, the parts of the locking device cooperate to block the locking bar from being moved from the blocked position. However, when the container is tilted forward, e.g. for emptying the content of the container, gravity, acting on the parts of the locking device, allows the locking bar to be moved to the opened position.

Abstract: The present invention provides a locking device for containers, such as waste containers. The locking device comprises a rolling member. When the locking device is in its upright position, the rolling member blocks the locking device from being able to rotate to an open position. When the locking device is tilted, the rolling member rolls to its release position which allows the locking device to rotate to the open position. The locking device also include a manual release mechanism for a user to manually place the rolling member into the release position, so that he/she can manually open the locking device when it is in the upright position.
