Abstract: A contact lens configured to decrease dark adaptation comprises one or more LEDs and directs light from the LED away from the fovea and toward the parafovea or perifoveal regions of the retain. In some embodiments, soft contact lens embedded with one or more arrays of microLEDs and electronics operating the LEDs is configured to be worn at night in order to inhibit dark adaptation and reduce oxygen consumption by the rods. The contact lens may be made of a single layer of a contact lens material or multiple layers sandwiching a flexible transparent plastic layer comprising the electronics and the LED arrays. The contact lens may be made of a hydrophilic hydrogel material that is biocompatible to the human cornea, or a silicone hydrogel material. The contact lens may be spherical and may provide refractive correction to the eye of the wearer.

Abstract: A source of light energy such as a source of violet light energy is coupled to a structure configured to contact the eye. The light source and structure are arranged to provide therapeutic amounts of violet light energy to the eye in order to inhibit the progression of refractive error such as myopia. The light source can be configured in many ways and may comprise a radioisotope and a phosphorescent material. The structure configured to contact the eye may comprise a contact lens or an implant.

Abstract: An apparatus to treat refractive error of an eye comprises an electroactive component configured to switch between a light scattering or optical power providing configuration to treat refractive error of the eye and a substantially transparent configuration to allow normal viewing. The electroactive component can be located on the lens away from a central axis of the lens to provide light to a peripheral region of the retina to decrease the progression of myopia. The electroactive component can be located on the lens away from the central axis of the lens in order for the wearer to view objects through an optical zone while the electroactive component scatters light. The electroactive component can be configured to switch to the substantially transparent configuration to allow light to pass through the electroactive component and to allow the lens to refract light to correct vision and allow normal viewing through the lens.

Abstract: A wearer adjustable apparatus is configured for a wearer to view an object and adjust stimuli projected into the eye by adjusting the location of the projection optics, for example with movement of the projection optics relative to one or more components of a support such as an eyeglass frame. In some embodiments, the projection system comprises an adjustable retainer for the wearer to adjust first active projection elements coupled to a first support in front of a first eye in relation to second projection optics coupled to a second support in front of a second eye of the wearer. In some embodiments, the apparatus comprises oculars comprising the projection optics and corrective lenses configured for the wearer to adjust positions of the lenses and projection optics in front of the wearer's eyes in order to project therapeutic spots onto a desired location relative to the wearer's retinas.

Abstract: An OCT axial length measurement device is configured to measure an area of the retina within a range from about 0.05 mm to about 2.0 mm. The area can be measured with a scanned measurement beam or plurality of substantially fixed measurement beams. The OCT measurement device may comprise a plurality of reference optical path lengths, in which a first optical path length corresponds to a first position of a cornea, and a second optical path length corresponds to a second position of the retina, in which the axial length is determined based on a difference between the first position and the second position. An axial length map can be generated to determine alignment of the eye with the measurement device and improve accuracy and repeatability of the measurements. In some embodiments, the OCT measurement device comprises a swept source vertical cavity surface emitting laser (“VCSEL”).
