Abstract: Synchronized output of audio on a group of devices can comprise sending audio data from an audio distribution master device to one or more slave devices in the group. Scores can be assigned to respective audio playback devices, the scores being indicative of a performance level of the respective audio playback devices acting as a master device. The device with the highest score is designated as a candidate master device and one or more remaining devices are designated as a candidate slave(s). A throughput test is conducted with the highest scoring device acting as the candidate master device. The results of the throughput test are used to determine a master device for a group of devices. Latency of the throughput test can be reduced by using a prescribed time period for completion of the throughput test, and/or by selecting a first group configuration to passes the throughput test.

Based on the parameter, the audio device may determine whether an occurrence of the predefined expression in the input audio is a result of an utterance of the predefined expression by a user.

Abstract: A system capable of synchronizing audio by determining a playback delay between when an audio sample is sent to and then output from a speaker. The system may generate a test signal configured to reach a saturation threshold and may send the test signal at a first time, followed by blank audio samples, from a first processor to a second processor to be output by the speaker. The second processor may detect that an audio sample exceeds a saturation threshold at a second time, generate a timestamp and send the timestamp to the first processor. The first processor may determine a playback delay between the first time and the second time and may also determine a number of blank audio samples sent between the first time and the second time. Using the playback delay and the number of blank audio samples, the system may generate audio using precise timing.

Abstract: An audio device may have an output speaker that produces audio within the environment of a user and one or more input microphones that capture speech and other sounds from the user environment. The audio device may use acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) to suppress echoed components of the speaker output that may be present in audio captured by the input microphones. The AEC may be implemented using an adaptive filter that estimates echoing based on an output reference signal. The output reference signal may be generated by a reference microphone placed near the speaker of the audio device.

The assistants within the system are coordinated and synchronized to perform acoustic echo cancellation, selection of a best audio input from among the assistants, and distributed processing.
