摘要:
A tunable vibration isolation device comprising a magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE), and methods of using such a device, are provided. By manipulating a magnetic field within the MRE the device's stiffness is controlled. The vibration isolator can be constructed to provide shock absorption in one, two and three dimensions. Coupling the tunable device to a sensor feedback and a control system provides fast and accurate vibration isolation and energy dissipation for shock events in a variety of applications.

The disclosed device is directed toward magneto-rheological fluid encasement device. The magneto-rheological fluid encasement device comprises a body having at least one containment element defining an interior and an exterior. A magneto-rheological fluid is disposed in the interior of the at least one containment element. At least one magnetic field is in operative communication with the magneto-rheological fluid.

Magnetorheological materials are provided comprising magnetic particles, a polymeric gel and a carrier material. The polymerization of the gel is preferentially accomplished in the presence of the magnetic particles and the carrier material. Magnetorheological materials are provided having a selected off-state viscosity and a selected on-state apparent viscosity. The method of preparing these magnetorheological materials is also provided. The carrier material, the polymeric gel and the magnetic particles are selected so that the resulting magnetorheological material has the desired off-state viscosity and on-state apparent viscosity. These materials have good dispersion characteristics, reduced settling, superior off-state viscosity and superior apparent viscosity in the presence of a magnetic field.

The present invention is directed to proton exchange membranes such as for use in fuel cells. In one embodiment, a polyetherquinoxaline is obtained by reaction between a haloquinoxaline and at least one diol, which forms a repeating unit including an ether linkage. The polyetherquinoxaline is suitable for use in a proton exchange membrane, which can be used in a fuel cell.
