摘要: Variable and ambiguous factors in clinical guideline execution are further defined by prior expert medical scrutiny and testing. The definitions promote uniformity and ease of use, afford efficient interpretation by a medical device which can variably invoke the guideline (160) suited to the sensed current situation, and facilitate enterprise-wide administration of the rules under which a guideline for current operation is selected, preferably based on an ontology language (140). Guidelines are automatically deployed, and the deployment is managed. A patient care guideline formulated, medically approved and released includes logical structure (516) that has been specifically tailored to at least one value of at least one, but fewer than all, of a plurality of variables. Each of a set of clinical guidelines, including that guideline, is within a range of a function of the variables. A processor evaluates the function to select, from among the set, that guideline for current execution (S620). In another aspect, a medical device identifies a medically-approved clinical guideline for current execution and, responsive to the identification, the device automatically performs the guideline.

摘要: A method of operating a system including a digital network interconnected intelligent digital devices (IDDS) generating and receiving eXtensible Markup Language (XML) documents containing data and respective Document Type Definitions (DTDs) describing the data content. Preferably, the method includes steps for transmitting a generated XML document from a first IDD to a second IDD, and, when the respective DTD for the generated XML document satisfies a predetermined criteria, operating on the data contained in the XML document at the second IDD. In a first exemplary case, the second IDD maintains a list of trusted DTDs, and the predetermined criteria is equality between the name of the respective DTD and the name of a trusted DTD. Alternatively, the predetermined criteria is satisfied by inclusion of the name of a program residing on the second IDD in the respective DTD. In a second exemplary case, the transmitting step includes transmitting the generated XML document from the first IDD to the second IDD and a third IDD, the operating step includes operating on the data contained in the XML document at the second IDD when the respective DTD for the generated XML document satisfies a first predetermined criteria, and the method further includes the step of operating on the data contained in the XML document at the third IDD when the respective DTD for the generated XML document satisfies a second predetermined criteria. A system composed of IDDs interconnected by an in home digital network (IHDN) or other mechanism, which system can be operated by the method mentioned above, is also described.

摘要: A system and method for configuring a clinical setting for a particular patient according to a clinical guideline prescribed for the particular patient are provided. The system (200) includes at least one contactless reader (404) for detecting a first tag associated with a patient (416) and generating a first identification signal indicative of the first tag; and a processor (302) for receiving the first identification signal, retrieving a patient record based on the first identification signal and generating a clinical care setting configuration for the patient based on the patient record. Additionally, the reader detects at least one second tag associated with at least one piece of medical equipment (408, 412) and the processor determines a current care setting configuration based on the detected at least one second tag, and then determines if the generated care setting configuration matches the current care setting configuration.

摘要: Method and system for determining a norm to apply to a patient being examined in which at least one physical characteristic of the patient is determined from the examination and guidelines relating thereto are obtained. Information about the patient other than from the examination and established norms for each characteristic are also obtained. An established norm to be applied to the patient is selected based on the determination of the characteristic(s), the guidelines relating to the determination thereof, and the information about the patient other than from the examination. The selection of the norm is performed by an inference engine. The norm is applied to the characteristic, e.g., a measured anatomical feature, to obtain a normal value therefor. The measured anatomical feature is compared to the normal value to determine whether it is indicative of a normal or abnormal condition.
