摘要: A papermaking fabric is treated by applying a nanoparticle type coating to improve their resistance to contamination by foreign matter in the papermaking system. The coating is applied during fabric manufacture and cured during heat setting. Alternatively, the coating applied or renewed by utilizing an existing shower or locating a spray boom or other suitable coating application device in the dryer section to apply the coating to the fabric in a controlled, uniform manner. Prior to application of the coating, the fabric is first thoroughly cleaned such as by showering or spraying, and then dried. Following controlled application of the coating, any excess material is removed by a suitable means, such as by vacuum, and the remaining coating on the fabric is then cured, either by utilizing the ambient heat of the dryer section or by a portable bank of heaters. In this manner, the fabric does not have to be removed from the machine in order to apply or renew the contaminant resistant coating.

摘要: In a papermaking or like operation wherein fibers are supplied to a headbox in a foamed furnish, a method of controlling furnish flow including the steps of controllably advancing the furnish along a flow path to the headbox, measuring the volume flow rate of furnish through a fixed cross-sectional area in the path with a magnetic flowmeter, combining the flow rate measurement at least with measured values of furnish density and pressure in the path and with a reference pressure value to obtain a corrected volume flow rate value, and controlling the advance of furnish in the path upon departure of this corrected value from a desired value so as to change the corrected value toward the desired value. A temperature measurement can also be combined with the other measured values, and with a reference temperature value, in obtaining the corrected flow rate value. If the headbox has a variable slice opening, a measured value of slice opening dimension can be combined with the corrected volume flow rate value to ascertain the discharge velocity of the furnish issuing from the headbox, and the control of furnish advance can be made responsive to departure of this ascertained velocity from a desired value so as to charge the ascertained velocity toward the desired value. The method can be practiced to control plural furnish flows supplied to a multichannel headbox, with the corrected flow rate values of the individual flows being summed to obtain a total flow rate or ascertained velocity value for control of overall flow conditions. Apparatus for controlling a flow or flows of foamed furnish includes a magnetic flowmeter, devices for making and transmitting measurements of at least furnish density and pressure, a control unit for receiving and combining the measurements thus made by the flowmeter and the other devices, and furnish flow control means such as a variable speed pump controlled by signals from a control unit.

摘要: Apparatus and method for the manufacture of a non-woven fibrous web, such as paper, from a dispersion of fibers in a foamed liquid. In a preferred embodiment, a solution of surfactant in water is initially discharged from a headbox into the nip of a twin forming wire prior to its passage over a curvilinear path defined by a forming roll. The water-surfactant solution is caused repeatedly to pass through the outer one of the twin forming wires until there is created, and stored in a silo, a foamed liquid containing about 65% air in the form of bubbles of from about 20 to about 200 microns in diameter. The foamed liquid is directed from the silo into a mix tank wherein a slurry containing fibers at 20% to 55% solids is added and mixed. The mixture is pumped to the headbox and into the nip of the forming wires. The outer wire retains the fibers while passing and again foaming the liquid for return to the silo and the mix tank for addition of fibers and return to the headbox. The process is continued in formation of a fibrous web.In an alternative embodiment, the curvilinear path is defined by an arcuate surface that is fluid pervious so that the solution to be foamed may pass through both the inner and outer wires.A further alternative embodiment utilizes a single forming wire for receiving the solution prior to passage over a suction breast roll which receives the solution then centrifuges it outwardly in formation of foamed liquid.

摘要: A method of foam forming of paper includes the steps of metering a controlled feed of fiber dispersed in an aqueous liquid into a dewatering device, wherein the consistency of the fiber dispersed in the aqueous liquid input to the dewatering device is between about 0.5 and about 7% by weight. A uniform continuous strand of semi-moist pulp is obtained wherein the consistency of the semi-moist pulp leaving the dewatering device is between about 8 and 30% by weight. A stream of a foamed aqueous admixture is obtained and introduced into a dispersing mixer having shearing action extending substantially throughout a zone substantially athwart the flow path of the uniform continuous strand and the foamed aqueous stream and forming a stream of dispersed fiber bearing aqueous foam. The dispersed fiber bearing aqueous stream is conducted to the inlet of a positive displacement pump. Thereafter the dispersed fiber bearing stream is conducted through a headbox and the fibers dispersed in the stream are deposited on a moving foraminous support.

摘要: Absorbent paper products, such as towels, absorbent wipes, toilet tissue, facial tissue and the like fibrous webs of relatively high bulk, are produced by a method comprising the steps of treating hydrophilic cellulosie fibers to impart kinks, curls, bends, twists, to the fibers; dispersing the treated fibers in an aqueous forming medium, and wet-forming a stratified single-ply web constituted of at least one stratum of the treated fibers and at least one stratum of conventional paper-making fibers. The treating step may consist of wet or dry mechanical working, chemical treatment or a combination of mechanical and chemical treatments. The web forming step comprises preparing a first aqueous furnish of the treated fibers, preparing a second aqueous furnish of the conventional fibers, and concurrently depositing the two furnishes in contiguous layers on a moving foraminous support.

摘要: Fibrous webs of improved bulk and softness are produced by subjecting hydrophilic papermaking fibers to mechanical deformation, e.g. hammermilling, sufficient to deform the fibers without substantial fiber breakage, dispersing the resulting curled or kinked fibers, preferably in admixture with conventional papermaking fibers, in an aqueous foam with minimal agitation and holding time and forming a wet laid web from the resulting fiber furnish.
