摘要: A method of foam forming of paper includes the steps of metering a controlled feed of fiber dispersed in an aqueous liquid into a dewatering device, wherein the consistency of the fiber dispersed in the aqueous liquid input to the dewatering device is between about 0.5 and about 7% by weight. A uniform continuous strand of semi-moist pulp is obtained wherein the consistency of the semi-moist pulp leaving the dewatering device is between about 8 and 30% by weight. A stream of a foamed aqueous admixture is obtained and introduced into a dispersing mixer having shearing action extending substantially throughout a zone substantially athwart the flow path of the uniform continuous strand and the foamed aqueous stream and forming a stream of dispersed fiber bearing aqueous foam. The dispersed fiber bearing aqueous stream is conducted to the inlet of a positive displacement pump. Thereafter the dispersed fiber bearing stream is conducted through a headbox and the fibers dispersed in the stream are deposited on a moving foraminous support.

摘要: Apparatus and method for the manufacture of a non-woven fibrous web such as paper from a dispersion of fibers in a foamed liquid. In a preferred embodiment, a solution of surfactant in water is initially discharged from a headbox into the nip of a twin forming wire prior to its passage over a curvilinear path defined by a forming roll. The water-surfactant solution is caused repeatedly to pass through the outer one of the twin forming wires until there is created, and stored in a silo, a foamed liquid containing about 65% air in the form of bubbles of from about 20 to about 200 microns in diameter. The foamed liquid is directed from the silo into a mix tank wherein a slurry containing fibers at 20% to 55% solids is added and mixed. The mixture is pumped to the headbox and into the nip of the forming wires. The outer wire retains the fibers while passing and again foaming the liquid for return to the silo and the mix tank for addition of fibers and return to the headbox. The process is continued in formation of a fibrous web.In an alternative embodiment, the curvilinear path is defined by an arcuate surface that is fluid pervious so that the solution to be foamed may pass through both the inner and outer wires.A further alternative embodiment utilizes a single forming wire for receiving the solution prior to passage over a suction breast roll which receives the solution then centrifuges it outwardly in formation of foamed liquid.

摘要: A paper product and a method of making a paper product with a glabrous surface and adapted for use either dry or use in a manually pre-moistened condition. The paper product has temporary wet strength exhibiting an initial normalized CD wet tensile strength of at least about 25 g/1" strip, preferably 35 g/1" strip as measured by the Finch Cup Test 5 seconds after immersion and a subsequent CD wet tensile strength of less than about 2/3 the initial value as measured 30 minutes after immersion. A temporary wet strength agent comprising aldehydic units in the range of from about 2 pounds per ton to about 30 pounds per ton is added to the furnish. A cationic nitrogenous softener/debonder is preferably added to the furnish, in an amount of from about 1 pound per ton to about 6 pounds per ton. The CD dry tensile strength of the paper product is from at least about 133 g/1" up to about 267 g/1", and the tensile modulus is from about 10 to about 32 g/% strain while the GM MMD friction is from about 0.26 to about 0.10. Preferably, the wet strength of the product decays with sufficient speed that the CD wet tensile strength drops to about 15 g/1" strip within 10 hours after immersion. When rubbed against a skin-like surface in a moistened condition, the paper product remains substantially free of pilling.

摘要: A paper product and a method of making a paper product with a glabrous surface and adapted for use either dry or for use in a manually pre-moistened condition. The paper product having temporary wet strength exhibiting an initial normalized CD wet tensile strength of at least about 75 g/3 inch strip, preferably 105 g/3 inch strip as measured by the Finch Cup Test 5 seconds after immersion and a subsequent CD wet strength of less than 1/2 as measured 10 minutes after immersion. A temporary wet strength agent comprising uncharged chemical moieties such as aldehydes, and aldehydes containing polymers, polyols and cyclic ureas or mixtures thereof in the range of from about 2 pounds per ton to about 30 pounds per ton is added to the web. Optionally starch and a cationic nitrogenous softener/debonder is added. The starch and softener/debonder are added to assist in tailor making the desired paper product having temporary wet strength. The dry CD tensile strength of the paper product is from at least about 399 g/3 inches up to about 801 g/3 inches, and the tensile modulus is from about 10 to about 32 g/% strain while the GM MMD friction is from about 0.26 to about 0.10. When rubbed against a skin-like surface in a moistened condition, the paper product remains substantially free of pilling.

摘要: The present invention is a method for maximizing water removal from an absorbent web in a press nip. The present invention uses a pressing unit having a blanket with a void volume and with a pressure profile that maximizes water removal in the press section or on the Yankee dryer of a paper machine. The pressure profile of the pressing unit according to the present invention has a very steep pressure drop at and/or following the exit of a pressure distribution curve in order to maximize water removal by minimizing rewet of the web. The improved pressure profile according to the present invention results in increased water removal and/or improved line speed. The void volume further increases water removal and/or improves line speed.
