An imaging device having a CMOS photosensor array for capturing images is described in which the array is also used to input programming and/or data used to control the imaging operations. The data-input can be based upon variations in light color, value, intensity, and patterning, or any combinations of the foregoing, for the download of information to the device.

A pixel array, composed of rows and columns, has a first row which includes pixels of a first color alternating with pixels of a second color. A second row of the array adjacent to the first row includes alternating pixels of the first color and second colors aligned in a column direction with the colors in the first row. A third row of the array is adjacent to the second row and includes pixels of a third color alternating with pixels of a fourth color. A fourth row of the array is adjacent to the third row and includes alternating pixels of the third and fourth colors aligned in a column direction with the colors of the third row. A readout circuit is connected to the array and reads out the pixel signals contained in each row in an odd/even interlaced fashion.

A synchronized multiple imager system includes a plurality of imagers having pixels arranged in rows and columns. The pixels generate pixel data responsive to light directed onto the imagers. One or more respective sensors are coupled to the imagers. The sensors sense the pixel data from the columns and output a vertical raster stream representative of the pixel data in the columns, thereby generating a plurality of vertical raster streams. A clock circuit synchronizes the sensors to sense selected columns in the imagers and to output the vertical raster streams from the selected columns. A processor circuit is configured to receive the vertical raster streams from the imagers and to process the vertical raster streams to generate a plurality of stitched raster streams. The processor circuit stitches seam vertical raster streams from adjacent pairs of imagers.

A system and method for accessing a memory array where retrieved data is stored in a memory and upon the writing of the data in its modified form, the originally stored data is updated with the modification prior to being written back to the memory array. In this manner, a new error correction code can be calculated prior to writing the data without the need to access the memory array again.
