Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing ethylene copolymers in a multistage process comprising at least one slurry phase polymerization stage and at least one gas phase polymerization stage in the presence of Ziegler Natta catalyst comprising a solid catalyst component, a cocatalyst of a compound of group 13 metal and an external additive selected from alkoxysilanes of formula (I) R1nSi(OR2)4-n, (I) where n is an integer 0 to 3, each R1 are equal or different and are selected among H, halogen, alkyl groups of 1 to 6 carbon atoms optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, alkenyl groups of 2 to 6 carbon atoms optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, and aryl groups of 6 to 12 carbon atoms optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, or the R′groups can form with the Si atom they are linked to a ring of 3 to 8 ring atoms, provided that all R1 are not hydrogen, R2 are equal or different and are selected among alkyl groups of 1 to 6 carbon atoms optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, alkenyl groups of 2 to 6 carbon atoms optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, and aryl groups of 6 to 12 carbon atoms optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, or the OR2 groups can form with the Si atom they are linked to a ring of 3 to 8 ring atoms, halogen is Br, Cl or F. The invention further relates to the catalysts and use thereof in said multistage process r for producing ethylene copolymers having melt flow rate ratio FRR21/5 at least 40 and/or polydispersity index PDI of at least 27.

Abstract: An in-line blending process for polymers comprising: (a) providing two or more reactor-low pressure separator units (1,7) in parallel configuration, each reactor-low pressure separator unit comprising one reactor (2,8) fluidly connected to one low pressure separator (3,9) downstream and further a recycling line (5,11) connecting the low pressure separator (3,9) back to the corresponding reactor (2,8); (b) polymerizing olefin monomers having two or more carbon atoms in each of the reactors (2,8) in solution polymerisation; (c) forming an unreduced reactor effluents stream including a homogenous fluid phase polymer-monomer-solvent mixture in each of the reactors (2,8), (d) passing the unreduced reactor effluents streams from each of the reactors (2,8) through the corresponding low pressure separators (3,9), whereby the temperature and pressure of the low pressure separators (3,9) is adjusted such that a liquid phase and a vapour phase are obtained, whereby yielding a polymer-enriched liquid phase and a polymer-lean vapour phase, and (e) separating the polymer-lean vapour phase from the polymer-enriched liquid phase in each of the low-pressure separators (3,9) to form separated polymer-lean vapour streams and separated polymer-enriched liquid streams; (f) combining the polymer-enriched liquid streams from step (e) in a further low-pressure separator and/or a mixer (13) to produce a combined polymer-enriched liquid stream (16); (g) reintroducing the polymer-lean vapour streams from step (e) via recycling lines (5,11) into the corresponding reactors (2,8).

Abstract: A polymer composition comprising a base resin is disclosed herein. The base resin includes a first high molecular weight component, a low molecular weight component and a second high molecular weight component. The weight average molecular weight of the second high molecular weight component differs from the first high molecular weight component. The ratio of the weight and number average molecular weight of the first high molecular weight component is greater than 5. The first high molecular weight component has a density of equal or less than 930 kg/m3, and an intrinsic viscosity of equal or less than 15 dl/g, The base resin has a melt flow rate MFR5 of equal or less than 0.40 g/10 min and the composition has a viscosity at a shear stress of 747 Pa (eta747) of more than 700 kPas. Also a process for the production of a polymer composition is disclosed herein.
