    Abstract: A glass composition having a content of SiO2 that is greater than or equal to about 44.0 mol. % and less than or equal to about 60.0 mol. % and a content of ZnO that is less than or equal to about 1.0 mol. %. Additionally, the glass composition is essentially free of Pb and Bi. The glass composition also has a refractive index that is greater than or equal to 1.75 and a density that is less than or equal to about 4.5 g/cm3.

    Abstract: A borate glass includes from 25.0 mol % to 70.0 mol % B2O3; from 0.0 mol % to 10.0 mol % SiO2; from 0.0 mol % to 15.0 mol % Al2O3; from 3.0 mol % to 15.0 mol % Nb2O5; from 0.0 mol % to 12.0 mol % alkali metal oxides; from 0.0 mol % to 5.0 mol % ZnO; from 0.0 mol % to 8.0 mol % ZrO2; from 0.0 mol % to 15.0 mol % TiO2; less than 0.5 mol % Bi2O3; and less than 0.5 mol % P2O5. The optical borate glass includes a sum of B2O3+Al2O3+SiO2 from 35.0 mol % to 76.0 mol %, a sum of CaO+MgO from 0.0 mol % to 35.5 mol %. The borate glass has a refractive index, measured at 587.6 nm, of greater than 1.70, a density of less than 4.50 g/cm3, and an Abbe number, VD, from 20.0 to 47.0.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein are glasses that present several advantages over traditional glass compositions used in optical applications. The glasses disclosed herein have a low devitrification tendency and can be processed by melt quenching and formed into macroscopic components. The glasses have high glass thermal stability indices and are chemically durable. The glasses disclosed herein are transparent when heat treated in air or oxygen and have high refractive indices and low density, as well, making them suitable for optical applications.

    Abstract: Natively colored glass housings having a glass article and/or glass articles include a first region and a second region. The second region includes a second thickness greater than a first thickness of the first region. The first CIE L* value is from 30 to 96. In aspects, a color difference dE94 between the first region and the second region is 1.0 or more, 4.5 or more, or 10 or more. In aspects, a first CIE a* value is −0.3 or less, and a first CIE b* value is 0.0 or more. In aspects, a first CIE a* value is from −10 to 20, and a first CIE b* value is from −70 to −5. In aspects, a first CIE a* value is 0 or more and a first CIE b* value is 5.0 or more.
