Abstract: A method of manufacturing a jaw member of a surgical forceps includes forming a jaw frame having a distal jaw support. The method also includes forming an electrically-conductive defining an aperture having a first diameter, forming a stop member including a body having a second diameter smaller than the first diameter and a shoulder having a third diameter greater than the first diameter. The method also includes inserting the stop member into the aperture such that the body extends through the aperture and the shoulder abuts a portion of the electrically-conductive plate surrounding the aperture, and overmolding an outer housing about at least a portion of the jaw frame, electrically-conductive plate, and stop member to secure the jaw frame, electrically-conductive plate, and stop member to one another.

Abstract: A surgical instrument includes a housing, a shaft extending therefrom, an end effector assembly supported by the shaft, a movable handle, and a drive assembly. The drive assembly includes a translatable drive member for actuating the end effector assembly, and a torsion spring including first and second legs. The first leg is configured to translate through the housing in response to movement of the movable handle relative to the housing. The second leg is configured to translate through the housing in cooperation with the first leg to move the drive member longitudinally when a force acting on the drive member is less than a threshold force, and to remain in fixed position, thereby tensioning the torsion spring and retaining the drive member in fixed position when the force acting on the drive member is equal to or exceeds the threshold force.

Abstract: A surgical instrument includes a shaft defining a proximal end, a distal end, an interior surface, and an exterior surface. The shaft includes a pair of channels defined in the interior surface thereof towards the distal end of the shaft. A drive member is movably disposed within the shaft. An end effector assembly is pivotably coupled to the shaft towards the distal end of the shaft. A cam pin operably couples the end effector assembly and the drive member such that movement of the drive member relative to the shaft manipulates the end effector assembly. Ends of the cam pin extend outwardly from the end effector assembly and are received within the channels of the shaft to guide movement of the cam pin relative to the shaft in response to movement of the drive member relative to the shaft.

Abstract: A surgical instrument includes a housing, an energizable member, a powered deployment assembly, and a cable assembly. The energizable member is configured to supply electrosurgical energy to tissue, and is movable between a storage position and a deployed position. The powered deployment assembly is configured to selectively move the energizable member between the storage position and the deployed position. The cable assembly having a cable coupled to the housing at a first end and having a plug coupled to the cable at a second, opposite end. The cable housing one or more first wires for selectively providing electrosurgical energy to the energizable member and one or more second wires for selectively providing power to the powered deployment assembly. The plug is configured to house a battery therein for powering the powered deployment assembly via the one or more second wires.
