A second member of the first planetary gear set, a first member of the second planetary gear set and a second member of the third planetary gear set are continuously interconnected for common rotation. The first and third planetary gear sets each have one non-continuously interconnected member, and the second planetary gear set has two non-continuously interconnected members. Two stationary torque transmitting mechanisms are provided to each connect one of the non-continuously interconnected members with a stationary portion of the transmission. Three rotary torque transmitting mechanisms are provided to interconnect the nonconnected members with another nonconnected member or with the input or output connected members. Judicious selective engagement of the torque transmitting mechanisms, in combinations of three, provides six forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio.
