Abstract:
An automotive display panel having a plurality of clear plastic substrates, wherein color-printed inks or foils are imprinted on the substrates. Each plastic substrate includes digits and identifying marks in selected areas. After creating a metallic-looking finish on the substrates, finely configured lines, such as concentric circles or radial lines, are printed on the color-tinted layer to create a desired appearance. Thereafter,,when the printing is completed, the substrates may be formed in multi-level configurations for providing a three-dimensional appearance. Backlighting is also provided to illuminate the selected areas of the substrates.
Abstract:
A system is disclosed for correcting a color of light being generated by an LCD image system having an LED and an LCD glass component that is illuminated by the LED. A plurality of color correction filters are constructed, with each providing a predetermined, differing color shift to light being output by the LCD glass component, based on a measured color of the light being output from the LCD glass component. Each of the color correction filters is constructed based on a known range of color variations that may be present in a color of the light being output from the LCD glass component. Each filter provides a color shift that shifts the color of the light being output from the LCD glass component from outside a predetermined target color area back into the predetermined target color area.
Abstract:
A head-up display device is presented having first and second display units that are provided on a surface of an instrument panel of a vehicle opposed to a windshield of the vehicle. The display device is configured to selectably indicate a plurality of information dots in a row on the windshield such that the plurality of information dots are superposed on a real image in a traveling direction of the vehicle.
Abstract:
The invention provides modular, interchangeable LED light bulbs configured to have an adjustable lateral emission direction. Such light bulbs overcome the drawbacks of conventional LED light bulbs that are not suited for use certain application, such as with sideway mounted light fixtures.
Abstract:
A gauge is provided. The gauge includes a housing and a bearing plate that can be coupled to the housing. The bearing plate defines a first aperture. The gauge includes a pointer coupled to the bearing plate that has a proximal and a distal end. The pointer end can be mounted to the bearing plate such that the distal end extends into the first aperture. The gauge includes a light guide that defines a second aperture, and can be coupled to the bearing plate such that the second aperture is aligned with the first aperture and the distal end of the pointer extends into the second aperture. The gauge includes an appliqué fitted over the light guide, and one or more light sources in communication with the light guide to provide light to the light guide for transmission to the pointer and the appliqué.
Abstract:
An instrument cluster generally including a backing material and a plurality of fibers forming indicia that indicate a vehicle parameter. The plurality of fibers is coupled to the backing material. The instrument cluster also includes an illumination device that illuminates at least one of the backing material and the plurality of fibers.
Abstract:
A display device having a display background and a light. The display background has a decorative field into which an indicator is disposed. The light is disposed rearwardly of the display background such that illumination of the light illuminates the indicator to permit a viewer to distinguish between the indicator and a remainder of the decorative field. The indicator forms a portion of the decorative field and is indistinguishable from the remainder of the decorative field when the light is not illuminated. A method for forming a display device is also provided.
Abstract:
A gauge having a housing, a light source disposed in the housing, a bezel, a display and a pointer. The display is coupled to the housing and includes a display surface that is visible through an opening in the bezel. The display is spaced rearwardly of the bezel to define a light transmitting aperture. The pointer is movably mounted to the housing and includes a pointer end that is disposed on a side of the bezel opposite the light transmitting aperture. A first portion of the light produced by the light source can be employed to back-illuminate the display surface, while a second portion of the light produced by the light source can be collected by the pointer and employed to illuminate the pointer end.

Abstract:
An instrument cluster that is mountable on a top surface of a vehicle dashboard is disclosed. The instrument cluster includes a transparent dial that has indicia engraved thereon. A plurality of light emitting diodes are positioned in a center portion of the transparent dial so as to illuminate the indicia for night time driving. The center portion of the transparent dial further includes a high gloss semi-transparent appliqué that provides a mirror finish. Symbols are incorporated on the appliqué so as to provide indicators in the center portion of the transparent dial when a light source illuminates the symbols of the appliqué.
