    Abstract: Described herein is a dental composition containing a polymerizable compound having at least one optionally derivatized β-hydroxy urethane unit. The polymerizable compound having at least one optionally derivatized β-hydroxy urethane unit is obtained without use of organo-metal catalysts and isocyanates and by a reaction between an at least one component A having at least one cyclic carbonate group with an at least one component B having at least one of primary amine functional group and secondary amine functional group. The present disclosure relates to use of the polymerizable compound having at least one optionally derivatized β-hydroxy urethane unit for the preparation of a dental composition, in particular a dental composite, a glass ionomer, a dental cement, a dental sealant, and a dental adhesive.
