摘要： A method, apparatus and system are presented for improving an optical code scanner used in an assisted service point of sale terminal by automatically detecting the placement of an item for scanning on the customer side of the optical code scanner and configuring the scanner to scan the item. Once the item is scanned, the optical code scanner reconfigures to scan items presented on the cashier side of the scanner. When the scanner automatically detects, configures and scans an item presented on the customer side of the scanner, it reduces the checkout time and reduces the number of operations a cashier must perform.

摘要： Systems and techniques for scanner scale implementation and operation using a plurality of load cells mounted in a planar arrangement. A plurality of load cells is mounted to a scanner base. The load cells are secured within a mounting chassis in such a way that the load bearing elements of the load cells extend through the protective cover. The mounting chassis and load cells may be mounted to the scanner base. A scanner top plate may be secured to the load cells such that the weight of the scanner top plate and any object placed on the scanner top plate is borne by the load bearing elements of the load cells, part of the weight being borne by the load bearing element of each load cell. Upon presentation of an object for weighing, weight signals generated by the load cells are processed to produce a weight reading for the object.

The bar code reader includes a housing portion and an image display system in the housing portion. An example bar code reader includes a dual-aperture bar code reader with a first housing portion containing a substantially horizontal aperture through which first scanning light beams pass for scanning an item, and a second housing portion vertically extending from a checkout counter containing a substantially vertical aperture through which second scanning light beams pass for scanning the item. The second housing portion includes a surface visible to the customer and an image display system in the surface.

摘要： A barcode scanner includes a spinner disposed in optical alignment with a light emitter for reflecting a light beam from a plurality of mirror facets. A motor is joined to the spinner for rotating the spinner to align in turn the spinner facets with the light emitter. A plurality of pattern mirrors are optically aligned with the spinner for reflecting the light beam from the spinner facets as a plurality of scan lines. A controller is operatively joined to the light emitter for turning the light emitter on during a first mode of operation for effecting all of the plurality of scan lines in sequence. A control tab is joined to the spinner for rotation therewith. A sensor is spaced adjacent to the spinner for detecting proximity of the control tab, and is operatively joined to the light emitter for periodically turning on the light emitter during a second mode of operation for effecting less than all the scan lines corresponding with detection of the control tab adjacent to the sensor.
