摘要: A sorter, method, and software product are provided for sorting mail pieces. The mail pieces are fed into a sorter, sorted, and then deposited into mail trays. The mail trays are then moved from the deposit area to a dispatch area, in the order they will be loaded into a truck. That order is preferably the same as the order in which the containers received the mail pieces.

摘要: A mail sorting system, method, and software product are provided for transitioning from an earlier phase to a later phase of mail sortation. Information acquired during the earlier phase is used in order to calculate, while continuing the earlier phase, a transition time. At the transition time, there would be sufficient remaining time to perform the later phase, in order to meet a deadline for completing the later phase.

摘要: A mail stack unloading device for use in a mail stacker to unload a stack of mail pieces in the mail stacker. The mail stacker has a pair of stack supports, located at a small angle from a vertical line, for supporting the mail stack as the mail pieces enter the mail stacker along a stacking path when the stack supports are in a stacking position. The stacker also has a platform or tongue connected to the stack supports such that the platform is positioned beneath the mail stack below the stacking path. During unloading, the platform is caused to move upward beyond the stacking path in order to engage with the stack, allowing the stack to be lifted. Then the stack supports are caused to forward beyond the vertical line in order to tip the lifted stack into a container.

摘要: A system and method for feeding and sorting mail pieces, and for moving the mail pieces to sorter bins according to delivery information on the mail pieces, includes a plurality of feeders, and a plurality of sorters configured to receive and sort the mail pieces from the feeders. A separating mechanism is configured to separate the feeders from the sorters in order to provide a plurality of pathways, so that each of the feeders is connectable by pathways to substantially all of the sorters. Each sorter includes sorter bins, and each sorter bin receives a subset of the mail pieces. Also included is a mechanism for selecting the pathways according to the delivery information read from each of the mail pieces.

摘要: A sorting system accepts a group of mail pieces at a loading station, sorts them, and then moves them to an unloading station. The system includes a reader for retrieving delivery information associated with each mail piece, and also includes clamps dimensioned for receipt of a mail piece into each clamp. The system has a device for creating an association between the retrieved delivery information of each mail piece and its respective clamp. The system also has a sorter for moving the clamps holding the mail pieces, based upon the association of each clamp with the retrieved delivery information, so that the mail pieces held by the clamps are sorted according to a desired delivery sequence. Additionally, the system includes a mechanism for opening the sorted clamps to release the mail pieces at the unloading station.

摘要: A paper handling apparatus includes a tray for supporting a stack of cut paper sheets. The tray includes at least one hinged portion. A feed roller is disposed above the tray for selectively feeding sheets seriatim from the stack of cut paper sheets. The paper handling apparatus further includes a stack flexing mechanism for pivoting the hinged portion of the tray to flex the stack of paper without bringing the paper into contact with the feed roller. This conditioning of the paper stack may reduce misfeeds or multifeeds from the paper stack.

摘要: A scanner disposed within a portable copier includes a scan carriage, a document indexer for transporting a document along a document transport path, a copy sheet indexer for transporting a copy sheet along a copy sheet transport path, and a printhead and ink supply cartridge, preferably a ribbon cartridge, supported by the scan carriage. The document and copy sheet paths are disposed on opposite sides of the ribbon cartridge, allowing removal and replacement of the ribbon cartridge on the scan carriage without disturbing the position of either the copy sheet or the document. Separate motors drive the document and copy sheet indexers, so that the copy sheet may be ejected from the device without advancing the document and without moving the scan carriage.
