Abstract: Battery life for a portable networked client device is preserved by providing a web page content web server with a set of non-advertisement web objects for a web page, the web page containing at least one inclusion method to one or more advertisement objects stored on an advertisement server separate from the non-advertisement web objects, by receiving by the web server a battery condition and a page request for the web page from a networked client device, and, responsive to the battery condition being low, by transmitting the non-advertisement web objects from the web page content web server to the networked client device, but avoiding incremental battery energy consumption of the networked client device normally required to execute, process, or display the advertisement objects by restricting download of the advertisement objects.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer implementable instructions for insuring delivery of an electronic document in a data processing system. A request is received from a requestor to insure delivery of the electronic document. In response to receiving the request, a payment amount to insure delivery is identified based on network characteristics of a network in which the electronic document is to be transmitted. An acknowledgment of the electronic document is sent to the requestor, wherein the acknowledgment includes the payment amount. The electronic document is delivered in response to receiving a reply to the acknowledgment from the requestor accepting the identification of the payment amount. The requestor is notified of a successful delivery of the electronic document in response to receiving an acknowledgment from the recipient.

Abstract: A microbrowser such as web-enabled wireless telephones and personal digital assistants allows a user to configure types of objects to be blocked from download including object memory consumption, display area, download time, and restrictions on animated images and executable scripts. Microbrowser state conditions such as battery level and network connection mode are considered when providing said limitations such that more restrictions may be placed during low battery periods to maximize battery life. For example, during low battery conditions or analog connection mode, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser not to download advertisements, run scripts or animated objects in order to maximize remaining battery life. In another example, a user may configure an enhanced microbrowser to block the download of objects containing audio, or which will occupy more than a certain percentage of the available display area.

Abstract: A system and method for gathering data regarding receivers of multicast content is provided. A spanning tree is used to connect a content producer, such as a pay-per-view broadcaster, to one or more receivers over a computer network, such as the Internet. Clients that wish to join a multicast group to which content is sent join the multicast group at the client's designated multicast router. The router sends information regarding the request, such as a tally of the number of clients that have joined the group, through intermediate routers to an endpoint router as identified by the spanning tree. The content producer is able to use the information, such as the tally and demographic information, to analyze the group of receivers. In a pay-per-view setting, the tally can further be compared to the number of subscribers to determine whether illicit receivers have joined the group, whereupon appropriate action is taken.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method, system, and program for saving content of electronic objects displayed in a computer viewer program. Content of an object is presented in an interface generated by the viewer program. User selection of a command is received with respect to the presented object content. In response to the user selection of the command, a determination is made of a repository file. The content of the selected object is appended to the determined repository file. The repository file is capable of including content from multiple objects appended to the repository file in response to previous user selections of the command.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system, method, and program for displaying pages in a viewer program on a computer display monitor. The viewer program displays an application window. The viewer program downloads a first and second pages from one of multiple servers over a network and then automatically concurrently displays the first page in a first window pane and the second page in a second window pane in the application window according to predefined settings specifying how pages are to be displayed in the first and second panes. The viewer program then downloads a third page from one of multiple servers over the network and automatically concurrently displays the third page in one of the first and second panes and one of the first and second pages in the other pane according to the predefined settings. A fourth page is then downloaded from one of multiple servers over the network and the viewer program then automatically concurrently displays the third and fourth pages in the first and second panes according to the predefined settings.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for filtering content based on the accessibility of the content to a user are provided. The apparatus and methods make use of an evaluation tool that evaluates requested content for accessibility to users having special needs, such as handicapped or disabled users. The results of the evaluation are then compared to a user's designation of a required accessibility level to determine if the content is accessible to the user. If the results of the evaluation indicate that the content meets the user's required accessibility level, the content is provided to the user. If the evaluation indicates that the content does not meet the user's required accessibility level, the content is not provided to the user or a not accessible indicator is appended to the content. In a further embodiment, the content may be modified to make the content accessible to the user.
