Abstract: A liquid crystal display device in which light leak and a tint change when being seen from an oblique direction at the time of black display are suppressed. The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal cell and a pair of polarizing plates that are disposed such that the liquid crystal cell is interposed between the pair of polarizing plates, in which a tilt angle of the liquid crystal compound is 1.0° or less, respective color filters that are disposed on respective pixel regions of the liquid crystal cell are provided between the pair of polarizing plates, Rth of the respective color filters satisfy predetermined requirements, the polarizing plate that is disposed on the visible side among the pair of polarizing plates includes an optical compensation layer and a polarizer in this order from the liquid crystal cell side, and the optical compensation layer satisfies a predetermined requirement.

Abstract: Provided are an optical film, a circularly polarizing plate, and an image display apparatus in each of which the occurrence of cracks is suppressed in the obtained film in a case of being punched. The optical film includes a stretched resin film and a liquid crystal layer formed by fixing a liquid crystal compound twist-aligned along a helical axis extending along a direction in thickness, in which a δa value calculated using a three-dimensional solubility parameter of a resin in the stretched resin film is 8.0 MPa1/2 or less, the liquid crystal layer contains a cured substance of a polyfunctional compound having two or more polymerizable groups in one molecule, and an absolute value of a difference between the δa value calculated using the three-dimensional solubility parameter of the polyfunctional compound and the δa value calculated using the three-dimensional solubility parameter of the resin is 4.0 MPa1/2 or less.

Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal composition with which an optically anisotropic layer having excellent light resistance can be formed and an image display device having an excellent contrast can be manufactured, an optically anisotropic layer, an optical film, a polarizing plate, and an image display device. The liquid crystal composition contains a liquid crystal compound and a non-liquid crystal compound, in which both of the liquid crystal compound and the non-liquid crystal compound are compounds having any of aromatic rings selected from the group consisting of groups represented by predetermined formulae, and a ratio of a molecular weight of the non-liquid crystal compound to a molecular weight of the liquid crystal compound is 1 or less.
