Abstract: Techniques for repositioning an input control device of an operator workstation including a repositionable arm coupled to an input control device, a sensor system having a sensor that is a contact or proximity sensor, one or more actuators coupled to drive the repositionable arm, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive sensor data from the sensor; make, based on the sensor data, an interaction determination indicative of whether the input control device has received an operator interaction for controlling a position, an orientation, or a motion of the input control device; and in response to the interaction determination indicating the input control device not having received the operator interaction, determine a trajectory for the repositionable arm that moves the input control device toward a desired position or orientation and cause the actuators to drive the repositionable arm and move the input control device based on the trajectory.

Abstract: Techniques for adjusting a display unit (206) of a viewing system include repositionable structure (204) configured to support a display unit, first and second hand-input sensors (240) configured to receive inputs from the operator; and a control unit. The display unit is configured to display images viewable by an operator. The control unit is configured to receive a first input from the first hand-input sensor, receive a second input from the second hand-input sensor, and, in response to satisfaction of a criteria set including, determine a commanded motion based on the first and second inputs and command an actuator to move the repositionable structure based on the commanded motion. The criteria set includes that a first magnitude of the first input and a second magnitude of the second input are greater than a threshold.

The control unit includes a display unit rotatably coupled to the second support. The display unit is rotatable about a third axis in a third degree of freedom with respect to the second support, and the display unit includes a display device.

Abstract: Implementations relate to hand presence sensing at a control input device. In some implementations, a control input device includes a base member, a handle coupled to the base member and configured to be manually contacted at a grip portion of the handle and moved by a hand of a user in one or more degrees of freedom, one or more control input sensors configured to detect positions or orientations of the handle in the one or more degrees of freedom, and a presence sensor coupled to the base member. The presence sensor has a sensing field, and at least a portion of the sensing field is located proximate to the handle.
