摘要: A swivel arrangement especially suitable for connecting the back end of a reaming tool to the front end of utility cable during installation of the latter underground is disclosed herein. This arrangement includes a swivel mechanism which is smaller in cross-section than the reaming tool and utility cable apparatus, for connecting the swivel mechanism to and between the reaming tool and utility cable, whereby to create an axially extending radial gap between the tool and cable. In accordance with one feature of the disclosed swivel arrangement, one end of the swivel mechanism is fixedly connected to the back end of the reaming tool to prevent relative lateral moement between the tool. In accordance with another feature, the arrangement includes apparatus no larger in cross-section that the remaining tool and substantially equal to or larger than the utility cable extending around at least a substantial axial segment of the swivel mechanism for reducing the axial extent of the radial gap between the tool and utility cable.

摘要: Systems and methods for cooling computer components in large computer systems are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a computer system configured in accordance with aspects of the invention can include a computer module positioned in a chassis, and an air mover configured to move air through the chassis and past the computer module. The computer system can further include a pressure sensor operably coupled to the air mover. If the pressure sensor determines that the difference between a first air pressure inside the chassis and a second air pressure outside the chassis is less than a preselected pressure, the air mover can increase the flow of air through the chassis and past the computer module.

摘要: A jet assisted drill system which uses a high pressure intensifier, positioned in a down hole drill assembly. Drill fluid from a drill stem is directed into the drill assembly, and in one mode this drill fluid is passed through the pressure intensifier to cause a piston assembly of the intensifier to reciprocate, with high pressure pistons of the piston assembly delivering high pressure drill fluid to a discharge jet in the drill bit assembly. The lower pressure fluid which drives the low pressure pistons is discharged into a downstream annular passageway and to the drill bit assembly. In a by-pass mode, a selector valve directs drill fluid from an upstream main passageway portion directly to a downstream main passageway portion to pass out the drill bit assembly. This flushes out debris which is carried upwardly out of the drill hole. There is a control valve to operate the piston assembly and a trigger valve operated by the piston assembly to direct fluids selectively to the control valve.

摘要: A cable following apparatus especially suitable for replacing existing underground cable is disclosed herein. This apparatus includes a tubular main body disposed around and movable along a particular cable in a forward direction while an arrangement of water jets are used to cut through the soil surrounding the cable in front of the forwardly moving main body. At the same time, a high pressure stream of air or similar gas is directed into a circumferential area between the front end of the main body and the cable in a way which is intended to prevent particulate material from passing therebetween and damaging or otherwise disrupting operation of the apparatus.
