    摘要: An optical type encoder comprises a light source for supplying a light beam for illuminating a diffraction grating formed on a movable scale, photoelectric converting means for photoelectrically converting interference fringes formed by causing a plurality of diffracted lights created by the diffraction grating to interfere with one another to measure the displacement of the movable scale and outputting a predetermined signal, detecting means for receiving a predetermined diffracted light created by the diffraction grating and detecting any fluctuation of the intensity thereof, and control means for modulating the intensity of the light beam illuminating the diffraction grating, on the basis of a signal from the detecting means, so that the amplitude of the output signal from the photoelectric converting means may become substantially constant.

    摘要: A rotary detector has a diffraction grating arranged circumferentially and a center at substantially the center of rotation. The rotary detector measures rotational information of a rotating object. The rotary detector is provided with a light source, an irradiating optical system for irradiating luminous flux from the light source to a first point on the diffraction grating, and an optical system for guiding two diffracted luminous fluxes emerging from the first point at an emerging angle and diffracted to have a same order but different signs to be incident at a second point on the diffraction grating at an incident angle relative to a rotational direction of the grating, with the second point positioned substantially opposite to the first point on the diffraction grating with respect to the center of the rotation, and the incident angle is the same angle as the emerging angle. A wave superposing optical system superposes two rediffracted lights diffracted at the second point with the order of the same signs at the first point, respectively, and a detector detects the superposed rediffracted lights. The rotational information of the rotating object is thus measured by the detector.

    摘要: An encoder includes a first polarizing beam splitter for splitting a beam into first and second beams, and a first .lambda./4 plate arranged in respective first and second optical paths. A first optical device causes the beams to be incident on a diffraction grating so that positive first and negative second mode diffracted beams travel along the first and second optical paths, respectively, and superposes the diffracted beams on each other. A second polarizing beam splitter splits the diffracted beams from each other, and a second .lambda./4 plate is arranged in third and fourth optical paths for the diffracted beams, respectively. A second optical device causes the diffracted beams to be incident on the diffraction grating so that positive and negative first mode rediffracted beams travel along the third and fourth optical paths, respectively, and superposes the rediffracted beams on each other. A converting device causes the rediffracted beams to interfere with each other to form an interfered beam, which is converted into an electrical signal. A difference between optical path lengths of beams incident on the converting device through the first and fourth paths and through the second and fourth paths, and a difference between optical path lengths of beams incident on the converting device through the first and third paths and through the second and third paths are larger than a coherent length of the light source beam.
