摘要: In a coaxial engine starter comprising a pinion connected to the output shaft which is driven by an electric motor, via a helical spline, a switch unit for selectively closing a power supply line to the electric motor, and a solenoid device consisting of an annular armature and an annular energization coil surrounding the output shaft to axially drive the pinion and a moveable contact of the switch unit in the axial direction, the energization coil is disposed between the electric motor and the pinion with a commutator of the electric motor facing the energization coil, and a pigtail for one of the brushes is directly connected to the moveable contact. Also, the contacts of the switch unit are placed between a pair of adjacent brushes of the commutator. In particular, by separating the part of the armature for driving the moveable contact from the part of the armature for driving the pinion, the stroke of the moveable contact can be minimized, and the stress acing upon the connecting part of the pigtail upon movement of the contact can be minimized.

摘要: A starter system for an internal combustion engine having a casing provided with a mounting circumferential surface adapted to be substantially closely fitted into an associated mounting bore provided in the engine or a transmission housing associated therewith, and a mounting flange extending radially from the casing and provided with a mounting end surface perpendicular to a longitudinal line of the output shaft of the starter system and spaced from the mounting circumferential surface along the longitudinal line. Because of the presence of the distance between the mounting end surface of the mounting flange and the mounting circumferential surface of the starter casing closely fitted into the mounting bore, the reaction force acting on the pinion is prevented from being amplified and transmitted to the mounting surfaces by means of an undesirable lever action.

摘要: In a video display apparatus, a backlight for illuminating a liquid crystal panel is segmented into a plurality of areas. A frequency distribution processing unit calculates a dark pixel amount from the frequency distribution of the gradation values of pixels in a video image. A backlight control unit calculates a lower limit of luminance in each area included in the backlight so that the lower limit increases as the dark pixel amount becomes smaller. The backlight control unit adjusts the luminance in each area individually according to the gradation values in each portion of the video image, and adjusts the luminance in an area where the luminance is less than the lower limit to the lower limit. The difference in luminance between the areas illuminating dark portions of the video image is decreased, and the occurrence of luminance blur resulting from the difference in luminance between the areas is reduced.

摘要: In a video display apparatus, a backlight for illuminating a liquid crystal panel is segmented into a plurality of areas. 摘要: The capability of heat dissipation from the contact surface of a magnetic switch for a starter motor is improved without increasing the fabrication cost. A punch 28 having a plurality of square projections arranged in two mutually perpendicular directions at the pitch of P is applied to the surface of a plate member 27 to form a first group of punched recesses 29a. The pitch P is twice the length of a side of each punched recess 29a. Then, the punch 28 is shifted with respect to the first group of punched recesses 29 by P/2 in both the vertical and horizontal directions before forming a second group of punched recesses 29b. The punched recesses 29a and 29b define projections 26 in the parts which are not occupied by these recesses generally in the pattern of a checker board. Because the projections 26 are separated from each other, and can effectively dissipate heat therefrom, the increase in the contact resistance due to heat generation can be prevented, and the efficiency of the starter motor can be increased by using a punching process which is both simple and economical.

摘要: In a starter system for an internal combustion engine, an input member of an overrunning clutch is provided with an annular shoulder surface abutting an annular end surface of a cylindrical boss portion of a reduction gear unit casing when the overrunning clutch is at a rest position, and a cylindrical sleeve portion extends from the annular shoulder surface towards the reduction gear unit so as to be closely fitted on the cylindrical boss portion of the reduction gear unit casing. Thus, water and other foreign matters are not only shut off by these mutually abutting annular surfaces, but also prevented from reaching this region by the cylindrical sleeve portion closely fitted on the cylindrical boss portion of the reduction gear unit. Also, the centrifugal force prevents water and other foreign matters from reaching this area when the starter is actuated and the two annular surfaces are not in contact.

摘要: In a starter system for an internal combustion engine using a planetary reduction gear unit, the internal gear of the planetary reduction gear unit, the center bracket accommodating the internal gear and the pinion cover are joined together so as not to rotate relative to one another by using radial projections provided in the outer circumferential surface of the internal gear which are passed through openings provided in the center bracket and received by associated recesses provided in the pinion cover. The three members are thus prevented from rotating relative to one another with a simple structure which is also easy to assemble. The projection of the internal gear may also be used for securing an annular seal member interposed between an axial end surface of the internal gear and the corresponding shoulder surface of the center bracket.

摘要: A dc motor including a first set of pigtails passing out of the motor case through a grommet which is fitted in an opening formed in the motor case. This motor has a pigtail holder which fixes the first set of pigtails to the grommet. The pigtail holder includes first and second portions. The first portion is stationarily engaged with the grommet, while the second portion is fixedly connected to those portions of the first set of pigtails inside the motor case. With this fixed pigtail arrangement, movement of the first set of pigtails is restrained, and therefore, effects of vibration on the first set of pigtails are reduced when the motor is subjected to vibration.
