The apparatus includes a user/application interface module receiving a PiP service providing mode, and an output module displaying a video component of a service on a main screen if the PiP service providing mode is a first mode and displaying a background video or the video component of the service on a PiP screen if the PiP service providing mode in a second mode.

Abstract: An apparatus for providing multiple screens and a method of dynamically configuring multiple screens are provided. A system and a method for providing a plurality of screen configurations to provide at least one service on a physical display device. The method includes positioning a logic logical main screen in a first arbitrary area of a display screen displaying at least one service on the physical display device, positioning a first logic logical picture-in-picture (PiP) screen in a second arbitrary area of the display screen, and positioning an overlay screen displaying at least one set of subtitles and various functions on the display screen.

A client using the transmission code set signaling method includes a demultiplexer demultiplexing a packetized elementary stream (PES) packet corresponding to a program selected by a user from the broadcasting stream received by the system interface, an image decoder decoding the demultiplexed PES for images, a sound decoder decoding the demultiplexed PES for sound, and a CPU fetching information about a transmission code set of a character string used in an object carousel message from the demultiplexed message PES and decoding the character string used in the object carousel message based on the fetched information about the transmission code set.
