Abstract: System and methods for optimizing wellbore tubular design are provided. Design parameters for a wellbore tubular component are determined based on different types of axial loads expected during a downhole operation. The design parameters include load conditions at load points along the tubular component. An equivalent axial load is calculated for each load point, based on the corresponding load conditions. Design limits for the different types of axial loads are determined based on associated design parameters. A counter-load pressure is determined for at least one load point selected for each type of axial load, based on the corresponding equivalent axial load for each load point and a corresponding design limit for each type of axial load. At least one of the design limits is adjusted for the different types of axial loads, based on the counter-load pressure of the selected load point for each type of axial load.

Abstract: The disclosure presents processes and methods for decomposing friction factors and generating a calibrated friction factor and adjusted input parameters. The calibrated friction factor and adjusted input parameters can be utilized by a borehole system as an input to adjust borehole operations to improve the operational efficiency. The friction factors can be decomposed by type, such as geometrical, geomechanical, mechanical, and fluid. The disclosure also presents processes and methods for identifying an outlier portion of a friction factor, as identified by a deviation threshold that can be used to identify adjustments to borehole operations in that portion of the borehole. A system is disclosed that is capable of implementing the processes and methods in a borehole operation system, such as a downhole system, a surface system, or a distant system, for example, a data center, cloud environment, lab, corporate office, or other location.

Abstract: Certain aspects and features relate to a system that selects an output value for controlling a drilling tool using dynamic force analysis coupled to fluid effects as part of a model that estimates projected torque and drag. A drilling model according to aspects and features of the present disclosure takes into account pipe axial elasticity as it relates to dynamic, time-based, force analysis and couples this relationship with drilling fluid effects over time. In some examples, a system calculates at least one dynamic sideforce and at least one dynamic, hydraulic force for each interval of time. An equilibrium solution for an output value using the dynamic sideforce and dynamic, hydraulic force for each time interval can be applied to the drilling tool for each time interval during drilling operations.

Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting a gas kick within a wellbore are provided. The system includes a rotatable tool including one or more acceleration sensors and/or oscillators. The method includes rotating the rotatable tool in contact with fluid inside the wellbore and detecting changes in rotational velocity of the rotatable tool to detect the gas kick. In other aspects, the method includes detecting a change in density of the fluid within the wellbore by at least one or more pressure waves to determine the gas kick within the wellbore.

Abstract: Damage to a casing string in a wellbore resulting from a wellbore operation can be predicted. For example, a stiff string model can be used to determine a contact point between the casing string and a well tool positionable within the casing string for performing the wellbore operation. The stiff string model can be used to determine a force of the well tool against the casing string at the contact point. The force can be used to determine a volume of damage to the casing string proximate to the contact point. A depth of a groove formed in the casing string proximate to the contact point can be determined based on the volume of damage.
