    Abstract: An optical wireless power transfer system includes a transmission module, which includes a main light source configured to output a main light; a transmitting processor configured to modulate the main light to have a first modulation; a beam splitter configured to pass the main light as a power light; and a reception module. The reception module includes a retro-reflector configured to retro-reflect the main light back to the transmission module; and a receiving processor configured to control the retro-reflector to reflect the main light to have a second modulation based on a power generated by the main light. Further, the beam splitter is further configured to reflect the main light having the second modulation to a first photodiode included in the transmission module.

    Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for performing foreign object detection in a wireless power transfer system. The present specification discloses a method comprising receiving a digital ping from the wireless power transmitter; transmitting an identification and configuration packets to the wireless power transmitter; transmitting a foreign object detection (FOD) state packet which indicates a reference Q factor of the wireless power receiver to the wireless power transmitter; and receiving wireless power through magnetic coupling from the wireless power transmitter based on the foreign object detection result of the wireless power transmitter using the reference Q factor. Irrespective of individual characteristics of a wireless power receiver, accuracy and reliability of detecting a foreign object may be improved.

Here, the wireless power transmission device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a laser light source unit; a light output unit which emits laser light generated from the laser light source to a light receiving unit of the wireless power receiving device; and a control unit which controls shaping of the emitted light according to the angle of arrival with the light receiving unit so that an overfill loss is less than a predetermined threshold value. On the basis of the secondary coil and shielding member according to the present embodiment, slimming of an applied product may be achieved and, simultaneously, the same target performance index (required for a medium power level (for example, 60 W) standard) may be realized.
