Abstract:
The fat-to-lean ratio of tissue on a human subject is measured by the subject standing on a platform (100), raising his or her heels, then allowing his or her weight to fall onto the board near a transducer to produce a force. A sensor transmits a voltage signal to an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. The subject's stomach (300), buttocks (310), and other flesh will continue moving in a downward direction (335) (below their rest position) after the skeleton has stopped moving. This results in a downward force on the board which is registered as a data peak (580) in a computer through the action of the sensor and the A/D converter. Tissue elasticity will cause the stomach and buttocks to then move upward (350), above their normal resting position. This will result in a lessening of the force and a corresponding minimum (590) in the output wave. The wave thus is a damped sinusoid which can be analyzed using various means to result in an "excess pendulous fatty tissue index" which is indicated by humanly sensible readout display.
Abstract:
A napkin ring which easily and quickly imparts a decorative shape to a napkin inserted therein comprises an annular-shaped external member 2 having a cantilevered tongue 4 extending from an inside surface of said external member toward and past the center of the annulus. The free end of the tongue has a pair of arms 16 extending therefrom and curved back toward the base of the tongue. A napkin is shaped by inserting a corner thereof 8 between the free end of the tongue and the annulus and pulling the napkin about halfway into the ring where it will be forced into a decorative shape between the tongue and the ring.
Abstract:
Improvements are disclosed in an ultrasonic display and recording system of the type utilized in diagnostic medicine with particular applicability in cardiovascular diagnosis. The system includes a multi-element transducer for generating and receiving ultrasonic energy which is propagated into and reflected back from the cardiovascular region of the patient being examined, and also includes means for generating a two-dimensional real time display and/or image of the zone of examination. TM recording means are associated with the system and may be actuated to effect a TM recording corresponding to a preselected region of the real time image being observed. An ECG output signal is also displayed in real time with the two-dimensional image, and photographs of the displays may be produced at selected points in the ECG cycle in accordance with a setting made by the system operator. The system includes provision for generating video recordings; and means for imposing various identification and time data upon the displays.
