    Abstract: Geo-fence based alerts are provided in a wireless communications network. A first subscriber device (SD) in the wireless communications network determines its current location. The first SD detects a geo-fence trigger by determining, as a function of the determined current location and a stored geo-fence database, that it has either (i) crossed a geo-fence boundary into a first active geo-fence in the stored geo-fence database or (ii) is within the first active geo-fence and has not yet begun playing back an alert associated with the first active geo-fence. Responsively, the first SD identifies an alert associated with the first active geo-fence and begins playback of the alert associated with the first active geo-fence.

    Abstract: When a land mobile radio connection to a land mobile radio network is unavailable for a land mobile radio subscriber device, the subscriber device may connect to an alternative network using an alternative connection. The subscriber device may send a copy of a scan list to a gateway configured to perform remote scan and priority operations, similar to the scan operations the subscriber device may ordinarily perform locally. Using the received scan list, the gateway may evaluate the call notifications, determine whether they should be sent to the subscriber device, and send them to the subscriber device over the alternative connection to the alternative network. The subscriber device may receive call notifications over the alternative connection and join active radio calls over the alternative connection. The subscriber device may be able to alter remote scan and priority operations by dynamically altering and sending the scan list over the alternative connection.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining and remedying audio quality issues in a voice communication. One example electronic computing device includes an electronic processor configured to receive, via a communication interface, a voice communication including a request from a communication device. The electronic processor is also configured to perform an analysis of the voice communication. The analysis includes disambiguating the voice communication. The electronic processor is also configured to store a profile of the voice communication associated with a state of the communication device in a history of profiles, when disambiguating the voice communication is successful. When disambiguating the voice communication fails, the electronic processor determines whether the voice communication is associated with a profile in the history of profiles. When the voice communication is not associated with a profile, a command is transmitted to the communication device to modify a transmission transport mechanism and retransmit the request.

    Abstract: A device, system and method for determining a prioritized list of communication groups is provided. A computing device monitors current call statistics of a plurality of communication groups, the communication device assigned to the plurality of communication groups. The computing device, based on a comparison of the current call statistics with historical call statistics of the plurality of communication groups, generates a prioritized list of the plurality of communication groups. The computing device transmits, to the communication device, the prioritized list. The communication device may render the list for selection of a communication group, and/or automatically change to a highest priority communication group of the prioritized list, and/or when bandwidth of a current site is unavailable to communicate on the highest priority communication group, roam to a site with available bandwidth to change to a highest priority communication group in the prioritized list.

    Abstract: A method of assigning a priority to a portable communication device in a communication system. The method includes determining an incident profile. The incident profile defines an expected timeline having a first incident stage, a first role associated with the first incident stage, a second incident stage, and a second role associated with the second incident stage. The first role is different than the second role, and the incident profile indicates a desired priority rank for the first role and the second role. The method also includes assigning a priority rank to a first portable communication device when the first portable communication device corresponds to the first role during the first incident stage, detecting a transition between the first incident stage and the second incident stage, and assigning the priority rank of the portable communication device according to the second role during the second incident stage.

    Abstract: Devices and methods for receiving a data file in a communication system. In one embodiment, the wireless communication device includes a transceiver, a memory, and an electronic processor. The transceiver is configured to send and receive data over a wireless communication network. The electronic processor is electrically coupled to the transceiver and the memory and configured to receive, with the transceiver, a first seed, a sequence of blocks, and a subsequent seed, cause the memory to save the sequence of blocks in the memory, and determine whether the subsequent seed is aligned with the first seed. When the subsequent seed is not aligned with the first seed, the electronic processor is configured to cause the memory to delete the sequence of blocks. When the subsequent seed is aligned with the first seed, the electronic processor is configured to cause the memory to maintain the sequence of blocks.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for assigning a talk group to a radio within a communication system is provided herein. During operation a router receives a communication from a radio over a channel. The communication uses a first talk group that is not assigned to the channel. In response, the router will forward identification information for the user over the channel using a pre-arranged second talk group. Once communication is received using the second talk group (at, for example a console), the receiver will program the radio with an appropriate talk group.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing acknowledgment information for radio communication devices in a wireless communication system. A base station receives a plurality of units of data each respectively transmitted by one of a plurality of radio communication devices on one of a plurality of predetermined communication slot positions of a first channel. The base station, in response to receiving the data messages, sends a control message on a communication slot position of a second channel. The control message includes acknowledgment information having a plurality of positional acknowledgment indicators. Each radio communication device receives the control message and uses acknowledgment position mapping information to identify one or more positions within the plurality of positional acknowledgment indicators that contains an acknowledgment to the respective units of data it transmitted on the corresponding predetermined communication slot positions of the first channel.

    Abstract: When a land mobile radio connection is unavailable for a subscriber device, the subscriber device may use an alternative connection. A gateway may be used to allow the subscriber device to connect to the zone controller of a land mobile radio network via an alternative network. The gateway may be configured to perform remote scan and priority operations, similar to the scan operations the subscriber device would ordinarily perform locally. The gateway may receive a scan list from the subscriber device and call notifications from the zone controller. Using the scan list, the gateway may evaluate the call notifications, determine whether they should be sent to the subscriber device, and send them to the subscriber device over the alternative connection. The gateway may be able to adjust the remote scan and priority operations based on receiving different scan lists from the subscriber device or by generating different versions itself.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing audio delay for mixed mode delivery of audio transmissions. One example system includes a communication interface communicatively coupled to a communication network, and an electronic processor. The electronic processor is coupled to the communication interface, and configured to receive, via the communication interface, a group call request for a talkgroup. The electronic processor is configured to transmit, in response to receiving the group call request, a call grant message to a plurality of subscriber units affiliated with the talkgroup. The electronic processor is configured to determine, using a machine learning algorithm, a subset of the plurality of subscriber units based on a call grant response time, and, while a transmission hold-off timer has not expired, when a call grant response has been received from each of the subscriber units of the subset, forward an audio transmission to the subset based on the group call request.
