Abstract:
The present application relates to apparatus (100) for cooling a light valve device (103), the apparatus comprising an array of elongate members (119), the elongate members (119) each having a tip (131) for contacting the light valve device (103). The apparatus (100) is suitable for cooling a digital micro-mirror device (103). A duct (117) may be provided for directing a flow of air from a fan to the light valve device (103).
Abstract:
An apparatus for transferring heat between an object and a fluid, the apparatus comprising at least one set of elongate members, the elongate members each having a tip for contacting the object. The tips of the elongate members generally make a point contact with the object and allow heat to be transferred between the object and a fluid, often air. A gap is provided between adjacent elongate members to facilitate fluid flow around the object and between the elongate members.
Abstract:
An electrode structure for use in a sealed arc lamp is described. The electrode structure includes a tungsten containing rod surrounded by a block of sintered tungsten containing powder. The block may be impregnated with a thermally conductive material such as copper, silver or braze, and may have a high thermal emissivity surface.
Abstract:
A light source suitable for use in a projection system is described. The light source is in a form of an arc lamp including an arc gap defined between an anode and a cathode. The arc gap is positioned at the focal point of a parabolic reflector which is truncated at its focal plane. A spherical reflector oppositely directed to the parabolic reflector and concentric with the focal point of the parabolic reflector is arranged so as to direct light from the arc which has not been intercepted by the parabolic reflector back into the arc gap.
