A display device comprising a display panel, a plasma driving circuit, a correcting circuit and a display driving circuit. The display panel has a laminated structure consisting of a display cell with signal electrodes arrayed in columns, a plasma cell with discharge channels arrayed in rows, and a dielectric sheet interposed therebetween. The plasma driving circuit sequentially drives the discharge channels to address the display cell line-sequentially via the dielectric sheet, and the correcting circuit processes picture signals through a corrective arithmetic operation. And the display driving circuit supplies the processed picture signals to the signal electrodes in synchronism with the line-sequential addressing, and then writes the picture signals in pixels prescribed at the intersections of the signal electrodes and the discharge channels. The correcting circuit executes such a process as to emphasize the difference between the picture signals supplied to mutually adjacent signal electrodes. This display device is adapted to eliminate, in driving the plasma addressed display panel, inter-pixel crosstalk or data diffusion derived from the thickness of the dielectric sheet.

The display apparatus of the present invention is comprised of a plurality of segments (13) to which a high voltage is applied, a cathode (K), a plurality of control electrodes (G2) disposed in correspondence with each of the respective segments (13) and a common electron beam deriving means (G1) disposed between the cathode (K) and the control electrodes (G2) in correspondence with the plurality of segments (13R), (13G) and (13B), whereby the segements (13) are selectively illuminated by controlling the voltages of each of the control electrodes (G2). A plasma address display apparatus is composed of a flat panel, a scanning circuit, and a signal circuit. The flat panel has a layered structure wherein a plasma cell having scanning electrodes disposed in rows and a display cell having signal electrodes disposed in columns are placed one on the other. The scanning circuit successively applies a selection pulse to the scanning electrodes to effect scanning of the display cell. The signal circuit supplies image data to the signal electrodes in synchronism with the scanning to write the image data for individual scanning lines. The plasma cell has discharge channels formed in rows such that they are isolated from each other, and a plurality of scanning electrodes are allocated to each of the discharge channels. The scanning circuit successively applies a selection pulse to the scanning electrodes allocated to a discharge channel to cause discharge to occur so that, for example, at least two scanning lines are formed in each one discharge channel. Since at least two scanning lines are formed in each one discharge channel, the plasma address display apparatus can achieve realization in numerical aperture and also in resolution.
