    摘要: A display device comprising a display panel, a plasma driving circuit, a correcting circuit and a display driving circuit. The display panel has a laminated structure consisting of a display cell with signal electrodes arrayed in columns, a plasma cell with discharge channels arrayed in rows, and a dielectric sheet interposed therebetween. The plasma driving circuit sequentially drives the discharge channels to address the display cell line-sequentially via the dielectric sheet, and the correcting circuit processes picture signals through a corrective arithmetic operation. And the display driving circuit supplies the processed picture signals to the signal electrodes in synchronism with the line-sequential addressing, and then writes the picture signals in pixels prescribed at the intersections of the signal electrodes and the discharge channels. The correcting circuit executes such a process as to emphasize the difference between the picture signals supplied to mutually adjacent signal electrodes. This display device is adapted to eliminate, in driving the plasma addressed display panel, inter-pixel crosstalk or data diffusion derived from the thickness of the dielectric sheet.

    摘要: A plasma addressed display system with a flat panel structure comprising a display cell for displaying an image through modulation of incident light in accordance with an image signal, and a plasma cell joined to the display cell for scanning the same. The plasma cell has discharge channels arrayed in rows and generates discharges in succession to scan the display cell line sequentially. The display cell has signal electrodes arrayed in columns, and forms pixels at intersections with the discharge channels. The display cell applies an image signal in synchronism with the line sequential scanning and modulates the incident light per pixel. Pixels of two rows are defined in the discharge channel of one row. The intersections of the signal electrodes and the discharge channels are partially shielded from light with a mask in a predetermined pattern, while the remaining unmasked light transmitting portions are assigned to the pixels 11 of either row, and the image signal is applied simultaneously to the pixels of two rows by the discharge generated in the discharge channel of one row. In this system, an enhanced resolution is achieved without harmfully affecting the aperture ratio or the electric resistance of signal electrodes.

    摘要: A plasma addressed display device includes a flat panel, a scanning circuit and a signal circuit. The flat panel is of a superimposed structure of a plasma cell having scanning electrodes in a row configuration and a display cell having scanning electrodes in a column configuration. The scanning circuit sequentially applies selection pulses to the scanning electrode to scan the display panel. The signal circuit writes the picture data in the signal electrode in synchronism with this scanning. On the plasma cells, there are formed reciprocally isolated discharge channels in a row configuration. To each discharge channel, charged with an electrically dischargeable gas, are allotted plural scanning electrodes. As characteristic of the present invention, the scanning circuit sequentially applies the selection pulses to the scanning electrode allotted to a sole discharge channel to produce electrical discharge to form at least two scanning lines to a sole discharge channel. This realizes a high open area ratio and high resolution of the plasma addressed display device.

    摘要: A discharge chamber wherein the allowability for positional displacement of electrodes is increased to facilitate manufacture of the discharge chamber and a method of manufacturing the discharge chamber are disclosed. The discharge chamber has a flat panel structure wherein a first substrate and a second substrate are adhered to each other with a predetermined gap left therebetween. Striped anodes and cathodes are arranged alternately on the first substrate. Barrier ribs are interposed between the two substrates and arranged in a stripe pattern to partition the gap to form discharge channels. The anodes are arranged just below the barrier ribs and have a width dimension smaller than the width dimension of the barrier ribs. Meanwhile, each of the cathodes is arranged intermediately between each adjacent ones of the cathodes. Even if the barrier ribs suffer from relative positional displacement, the exposed surface area of the cathodes by which plasma discharge is dominated is kept fixed.
