An apparatus comprises an image acquiring unit configured to acquire the face image; a first determining unit configured to determine a representative pixel value representing a skin region, based on pixels included in the face image; a region generating unit configured to generate a first region including the object; a second determining unit configured to determine correction pixels, which are one or more pixels used for the correction, out of pixels present in a vicinity of the first region, based on similarity to the representative pixel value; a partial-image generating unit configured to generate a partial image, which is a collection of pixels for replacing pixels corresponding to the object, using the correction pixels; and a correcting unit configured to perform correction by combining the partial image with the face image.

An image processing apparatus comprises an image acquiring unit configured to acquire a first image, which is an image including an eye; an image generating unit configured to generate a second image, which is a binary image representing an edge of the first image; a classifying unit configured to classify, based on presence or absence of the edge, pixels included in the second image; and a pupil-region generating unit configured to generate a pupil region, which is a region corresponding to a pupil in the first image, based on a classification result, wherein when pixels having a same value are present separately in a plurality of blocks in the second image, the classifying unit performs the classification of the pixels further based on areas of the blocks or luminance values of pixels in the first image corresponding to the blocks.

An expression estimation device configured to estimate an expression of a person from an image has an expression determination unit that analyzes the image of the person to generate first expression information indicating an expression of the person, a motion determination unit that analyzes the image of the person to determine a type of motion of the person, and an expression estimation unit that generates second expression information indicating the expression of the person according to the first expression information generated by the expression determination unit and the type of motion determined by the motion determination unit.
